What are you listening to, right now................

So I watched the documentary "meet me in the bathroom" which was actually quite interesting about NY music in that era and how some bands came together or evolved..then led to some finding some tracks that I hadn't listened to in a while
and one of my personal favourites from that era
-
like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Can't fucking stand Interpol

can understand the Interpol one, The Rapture though with their mix of electronica and punk was one of my favourites

Both of those bands get lumped in to modern alternative playlists with lots of British bands that start with "The" and groups like Bloc Party so i went through a phase about a year ago of listening to heaps of them. YYY led me off to listen to more, Interpol had me hitting the skip button
Obviously the obligatory purely my opinion for discussion purposes only.

Obviously..
The Rapture also inspired bands like LCD soundsystem, but "pieces of the people we loved" is an album from that era worth listening too
ooh..Silent Alarm from Bloc Party coming up next, that whole album rocks

You had me until this line
Good to see the TSF music thread drag itself out of the 90's and into the 00's

Not my favourite either but was on the documentary that I was watching. Essentially the producers of The Rapture failed to provide them an album so they moved to a new label and the guy who could produce music began to sing and essentially LCD soundsystem was born

seriously lol! that was a great album although overplayed in its time..
I do agree though we all have a soft spot for the 90's
-
i do love a good (or even half good) music documentary. This one is still a rental though?
-
If i look at my most played lists at the moment, i think there are a lot of 00s in there these days (though my favs are generally 90s, no surprises there)
Admittedly, a lot grew out of 90s bands (QotSA from Kyuss, A Perfect Circle from Tool) and some that straddled decades.
But there was some fucking good metal in the 00s, and as i say, all those Alternative/Indie bands from especially the UK, heaps of which are excellent -

yes, if you don't have foxtel
Also covered the rise and fall and rebirth of The Strokes

Reptilia is one of my favourite songs

@mariner4life I never went full metal like most of the fern however I have always liked alternative. During the 90's I also had a massive soft spot for the Manchester/ UK Thames Valley (indie rock) scene as well and a gap year in the UK then led to electronica as well.
In the 00's alternative/indie was still alive and kicking as well as some of the NY post punk/electronica cross over
seriously though I mind a good tune from any background
-
@mariner4life yep thats a good track
-
and something current as we slip into a friday afternoon
-
Everyone talks about Pearl Jam and Nirvana from that era…….but these guys were so much better in my opinion.
I’ve done lots of driving for work and listened to so much of their stuff lately. Sure Scott Weiland is one of the best rock vocalists of the 90s but it’s easy to forget how clever and innovative the rest of the band were too, Robert De Leo especially.
