Love the 8s. It's one of the best Olympic events.

Carter has been Val's bridesmaid for the best part of ten years. She has great shot put pedigree as her dad is still the American high school record holder and won an Olympic silver in the 80s before going to play NFL. She is a worthy champion who pulled off an amazing PB when it counted most.

Plus, Americans have proper out of competition testing which is when people dope (no one's stupid enough to be on the juice at championship). This is not like being beaten by a random Belarusian who has spent the winter on a diet of steroids and anvils in Minsk who then throws like the Hulk in the summer.

Val has come out and endorsed Carter as clean. But Murca ain't beyond reproach in the drug stakes ... Jones, Flojo, Lewis...

Hopefully those of you not experiencing Inverdale's inimitable commentary style directly through BBC coverage will nevertheless have heard about what happened following Drysdale's photo finish?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2016/08/13/sir-steve-redgrave-and-john-inverdale-in-on-air-spat-during-bbc/

Reserve's intervention to stop Inverdale in his tracks and stop him ambushing Dysdale before NZ media had first crack was brilliant to watch. If Sir Steve want already a knight, I'd be starting a petition to have him knighted.

The men's Black Sticks suffered a terribly disappointing end to their Olympics campaign today. They were leading 2-1 until the final minutes of the game and then Germany scored two goals - the last one 40 seconds before full time. Absolutely gutted for them to lose their spot in the semi-finals that way. Not sure whether Richie was in the crowd ...

That was coming like a car crash for the final six minutes. The Germans pulled their keeper and we simply couldn't clear the ball - wave after wave of attacks - and the one time we got up their end we got a free hit and we got a man binned for time wasting.

Hate to use the "c" word but that was up there with the worst. I suppose those Germans grew up watching replays of Manchester United beating Bayern Munich in injury time!

Worst of all - the semi would have been against 8th ranked Argentina, so quite winnable to play in the gold medal match.

Drysdale now NZs oldest gold medalist - heck of an achievement

NZ rowing could be in for some lean times when he, Bond & Murray eventually retire...

Bolt had a good point about scheduling though - running the semis within an hour of the finals is balls.

Anyone know how the sailing medal races work? I think I remember reading that the top ten from each event qualify for them, is that right? So our Nacra 17 Mixed pair have already qualified for the medal race on Wednesday?

Inverdale was a cockhole in the pairs as well, a few times throughout the race just saying to ignore the kiwis.

Points scored in heat races are carried forward and the top ten (in this case the lowest points scorers!) race off in the medal race which carries double points. These are then added to the previous points totals to determine the overall winner.

Yes. Carry your points from prelims (including disregarding your worst result) then medal race counts double. Add to prelim points. Lowest score wins.

According to nzherald Meech just has to be within 5 places of the 3 boats behind him to medal. Unlikely to catch the guy in gold. Apparently.
