Okay. I felt he allowed the Sharks to slow out play the ball in the second half. But we didn't help ourselves by not fighting to get up and play

20 awesome minutes. 60 shit ones.

Red hot start, but you just knew that not making them pay on the scoreboard was going to come back to bite is when possession inevitably evened up. And we were so close too, the cruel bounce to evade capewell, spud glow enigma not being able to ground the cross kick.

Taking off Egan fucked us, because lussick is an awful dummy half. Then egan got hurt again just when we needed him.
I saw someone say SJ sucked which I think is bullshit. He played his ass off with no support from the rest of his spine, slow play thr balls, and a backline running laterally.
Metcalf was absolutely shithouse except one run. The young fullback was a dead loss in attack. We repeatedly spread the ball in to waiting sharks defenders.
That backrow definitely lacks spark, far too conservative. Ford just has to go, yes even after 1 round.

But credit thr sharks. They defended like heroes, never fell out of the fight, and thrn followed talakai to the win.

Round 1, flush and move on.

    Still cranky though

What a defensive effort from the Sharks in the 2nd half. We kept hammering their line, creating goal line drop out opportunities, but the Sharks were staunch as.

SJ’s kicking was superb on those 5th tackles but I thought we lacked variation in attack on tackles 3 and 4.

Disappointing to lose a home opener.

Was it just me, or did RTS lack penetration in his runs? Comms were raving about him, but I'm unsure. I think he probably wasn't helped by a weak game from Metcalfe.

Penrith are cooked. trade everyone and rebuild!
The Cowboys are back! i was 12 months early on my title prediction
Fold the Titans and send them to Perth
The Bulldogs have spent all the money in the wrong places. Ciraldo is a shit coach
The Tigers are on the cusp of the 8! dynasty incoming

    ooh...

Cowboys looked the goods, having two edge forwards back certainly helps. Laybutt looks way better than Hiku ever did in his Cowboy stint although Feldt should be replaced by Valemi

Actually thought Dogs looked ok for the little ball they had, not comp winners at all but not bottom 3. Parra as expected though looked stronger

St George won't win the spoon.. Tigers will win something after all

Feldt should have been put out to pasture years ago. Granville as well

I picked the Dragons for the spoon which looks instantly foolish. Under Hook they lacked talent AND heart. Now they at least have heart.

Yeah I didnt expect to see the Dragons compete so toughly at all either, Dolphins probably biggest disappointment. Looked ordinary and could be a long season for them if Dragons also tear them apart this week.

Still week 1, anything can happen

Brooks to be a star this year (hurt for Tigers fans) but looked much more at home next to DCE

nah, Wayne can only do so much. their halves are awful. Very similar to the Bulldogs really, guns everywhere except where it is most important. Hammer having a stinker just added to it.

I think the Titans. Even with a couple of high profile outs that was a drubbing. Statistically worse than last year when Des was supposed to sort so many of their problems.

One other pleasing aspect of Round 1 was how a couple of clubs who have been down for so long in the Roosters and the Storm look on course to finish top 4 for a change. The equalisation measures of the NRL are really working when a couple of clubs with a history of producing so many local juniors can rebuild from the bottom.

lol Roosters and the Storm yes well. I am not convinced about the depth at the Storm but certainly started the season strong. Bellamy does have knack of turning journey men and unknowns into strong first graders though

Roosters are a strange one, largely same team as last year especially with Leniu about to have long sit down. The cheese actually played like a hooker in round 1, which helped their shape. Not sure that continues, also not sure how long all ball players can go before getting in each others way.

Both are a wait and see for me

The NRL will just try another team on the GC. Clearly not smart enough to accept the truism that the Goldie is where teams go to die.

    From Stuff:

NRL counsel Lachlan Gyles told the panel they had an opportunity to “draw a line in the sand and send a very clear and unambiguous message that there is no place for racism in our game”.
Gyles, who started proceedings referring to Leniu as “Spencer Luai”, and the Samoan international as “Tongan” – said it was also wrong to assume it was not a racist slur if the comment came from a “dark-skinned person”.

Sounds like Mr Gyles is a wealth of knowledge on all things race.

Think getting called Luai is probably more insulting irrespective of the obvious cultural heritage aspect.

    slightly different handling

game of dick fingers last night as two highly regarded teams repeatedly lost the ball in increasingly embarrassing ways.

In the end, messy games are won by flair players, and Brisbane have lots of them. Reece Walsh continued his balanced ledger, by making a bunch of dumb fucking errors but then pulling off some bullshit to score. He's the NRL's golden retriever.
Selwyn Cobbo looks like he is going to be an absolute menace as a centre.

Reynolds limped off with a knee injury which will have Kevvie sweating.
