@Canes4life Not a bad call. Kirifi was in the same winning Waikato U19 team as Jacobson.

With early contracting into academies it will be tough to get someone already in another SR team unless they want to move. It appears McMillan is happy enough with the likes of Boshier given he is a VC. If that's the case he needs to play there more regularly for Taranaki.

There are young opensides coming through the Chiefs system but they have little or no NPC experience yet, so a few years away from being in the frame for SR.

What is Simon Parker's best position? Is Sititi a possibility. Still think it's worth giving Jacobson an extended run at 7.

No.8 then 6. He's the same height as S Barrett and not mobile enough to be a 7.

I was surprised Sititi wasn't tried at 7. Really McMillan should be using the same loose forward trio against the Rebels that he intends to use for the last two games.

if Florence was the answer he would be playing now. personly I would keep LJ at 7 he hasn't=t got the running game for 6 or 8 but does the dirty work. Mathis is really the next in line but two years away.

Florence has been injured at times but is clearly the lowest ranked loose forward.

Mathis is really the next in line but two years away.

You've got Oli Mathis, Micah Fale and Grady Forbes. All were in the Chiefs U20s and Forbes debuted for BOP last year. To use coach-speak they each have different profiles. Veveni Lasaqa has spent time with the Hurricanes this season so is more experienced than the others.

@gt12 du plessis kirifi would be a good signing from the canes given he isn't a starter

    @cliff

He's one of few players who I actively dislike, but I will admit he would be a good pickup.

The issue is, would we really want him to start?

I personally think Jacobson at 7 might suit our style better but Finau, Kirifi, Jacobson could be very useful.

The under 20 openside looked pretty useful against Australia yesterday. Maybe worth looking at

Another option for the Chiefs is Veveni Lasaga who was the openside for BOP this year. He's looked good for the Canes in the appearances he's had for the main side and the dev side this year. Looks like a young Ardie Savea. I think he played for the Chiefs under 20s when they won the comp so again the Chiefs already know him.

Jacobson has the most breakdown turnovers in SR according to a graphic that was shown during the Blues-Hurricanes game. McMillan has said that he prefers Jacobson at no.8 as he gets his hands on the ball more, and he is definitely better with the ball at his feet from a scrum than Sititi.

@Canes4life I mentioned Lasaga as a slightly more experienced option. He doesn't always start for BOP though as Norris is preferred. He (Norris) could be in the mix too.

And he'd have to bring both chips to put on his shoulders.

McMillan has been in regular contact with Cane and has known of his decision for a little while. You would hope planning has been in place.

Do you know what the number was? I have the stats for 'Turnovers won' so it must be a subset of this:

As it's a Chiefs thread I'll point out that Vaa'i does really well on a lot of stats. I barely notice him when watching though

@Duluth I can't remember exactly but I am sure it was higher than 8. Jacobson was above McReight.

As it's not paywalled. An article about Simon Parker and the injuries he has had to overcome.

Simon Parker, Laghlan McWhannell and Gideon Wrampling make up a trio of incredibly talented but incredibly unfortunate Waikato/Chiefs players (though Parker now with Northland and McWhannell with the Blues).
