Crazy money for a 29-yr old.

Ohtani will earn more each season than the current Oakland and Baltimore squads.

A player you could build a squad around if you had any money left...

They've actually deferred the vast majority of Ohtani's contract so that they can build around him.

Only $2 mil per year of Ohtani's contract will be paid over the next 10 years - the remaining $68 mil per year is to paid out between 2034-2043.

What a weird contract. I guess you can do that when you don't have a salary cap

Opening Day for 2024 season is underway.
Betts & Freeman both homered for the Dodgers, while Ohtani 'only' had a single and a double.
    Dodgers beat Cardinals 7-1.
Other significant scores on opening day were the Orioles beating the Angels 11-3, Mike Trout hit a home run for the Angels. Blue Jays beat Rays 8-2 with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hitting a massive home run for Toronto. Reds beat Nationals 8-2 & Yankees getting up over the Astros 5-4 after trailing 4-0 midway through the game.
Brewers v Mets & Braves v Phillies matches were both postponed due to rain.

So it turns out Ohtani's former interpeter ripped off $16 million without Ohtani's knowledge - lying to Ohtani's financial advisors, changing access to Ohtani's accounts and impersonating Ohtani to banks.

The former interpreter for Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani stole $16 million over more than two years from Ohtani to pay off gambling debts to an illegal sportsbook, according to an affidavit filed by federal authorities Thursday.

Unreal performance by the Sho today.

Going into this game he only needed 2 home runs and 1 steal to get 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases for the season - he got both today with a video game type performance.

Having this type of season while healthy would be insane, but he did this while still rehabbing from an elbow injury.

So many traditionally non-baseball people watching baseball because of this guy (like me). He makes it look easy. Shohei mania is in Japan obviously but have been to Taiwan and Malaysia recently, and his face is everywhere.

The Dodgers came from 5-0 down to beat the Yankees 7-6 in game 5 to clinch the WS. Errors in the 5th inning cost NY. And they win with Ohtani being a non-factor in the WS.

I didn't watch, but I kept an eye on the scores. Sounds like the Yankees had chances to win all but one of the games, but couldn't get the W either due to mistakes from players or the coach, and the Dodgers were good enough to capitalise

Wow NY Mets just signed Juan Soto to a 15 year, $765M deal. Breaking the record deal Ohtani signed with the Dodgers last year.
