    Cocaine Bear

It’s bloody hard work sitting with a 13 and 15 year old and finding something we all want to watch but we nailed it first time with this !

Leave your brain and any semblance of logic at the door ( although apparently this is based on a true story ? ) and strap yourselves in for a ridiculous, gory, funny ride. Without giving anything away it’s literally about a Bear. On Cocaine.

Ray Liotta, Ice Cubes son and the black dude from the wire who swears a lot are terrific in this. The chick from Felicity has improved with age too.

A good solid 3.5 drug fuelled bears chasing ambulances out of 5 dismembered park visitors.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Favourite part had to be the ambulance. Score is about right 👍

    I know my movies.

    Navy Seals

    • This is where Charlie Sheen tried "method acting", but went "Full Retard"
      • introduction is him waking up drunk on a beach
      • character is quickly outlined as being an arrogant douche
      • ... never looked back
    • Entire movie is an ad for the Seal Teams... and not for recruitment, the whole thing seems like a "we've got this awesome anti-terrorism team - do NOT fuck with us" announcement
    • Soundtrack a fucking sweet mixture of 80s/90s US-cock-rock, and barely-disguised-Top-Gun-anthem-ripoff(s)

Definitely getting vibes now that we are truly in a simulation, or that world events are just WWE-style "news-entertainment", and this was just a teaser for the whole Seal Team Six thing.
    Wake up, sheeple.

@Kruse Navy Seals is in that sweet spot of Charlie's best work; that period of four - five years from Platoon to Hot Shots.

The Creator is worth a look, original story instead of a sequel or comic movie. Special effects are outstanding, apparently on only 80 million budget.

    Director from Rogue One.

Child actors are usually shit, but the girl in this stole the show. First acting role and is a natural. Plot is not the most original but still manages to be surprising, and has something to say.

My daughter got dragged to see it and ended up really enjoying it.

Watched this last night after hearing Edwards on a podcast talking about the effects. It's really amazing how they did all that for so little. I wonder if it will generally revolutionise the industry or whether the effects companies will just increase prices to match the prices of general industry standard?

Really enjoyed it although my one issue with it was that it made Asia seem mostly rural/backwards when anyone who has been there knows that is far from the truth for the majority of the area.

Agree the girl was great, although I didn't realise she was a girl until the wounded soldier said she was a girl.

@antipodean - I've got Platoon downloaded, ready to re-watch... I'd forgotten he was even in it.
@mariner4life - Fuck yes... Bill Paxton, playing a bad-ass sniper named "God". Weird.

Platoon is a giant step up from the usual (deliberate) quality of your movie watching. But have you actually seen it, how do you forget the main actor in the movie?

It's probably the movie I've seen the most in my life (along with True Romance) as my mates and I used to come from the pub, grab all night KFC, and watch Platoon.

He wasn't in bike pants with coloured braided hair. 😉

He's Francis, the one in the chopper at the end who says "we're gonna have a high high" (might be slightly paraphrased).

Charlie Sheen's character was also the narrator so hard to forget.

It's been a LOOONG fucking time since I've seen it. (Platoon)
I think. I'm pretty sure I've seen it. Or maybe I've just created a memory of it from the constant pop-culture references to it? Fuck - now you've got me doubting myself.

Platoon was a great film, but not because of Charlie Sheen.

He was playing a good character in a very good film but he was still wooden. However I will give you that he was very good for his usual standards.

    Downsizing

Intriguing premise and quite thought provoking even if it is 100% bullshit. Matt Damon ( very bland as he often is ) volunteers to shrink down to five inches tall in a bid to not consume so much of the earths resources, do the humanitarian thing etc……

Starts promisingly but really boring as fuck unfortunately

It would have been so much better if……

A rogue normal sized person or at least a bunch of rats attacked the settlement ?

Christoph Waltz is pretty good fun playing the same character he always does and the Vietnamese woman is a bit of a hoot but ultimately this flick is not worth your time.

2 tiny settlements out of 5 parties at the neighbours house upstairs

    True Romance

    • Yeah... the "ensemble cast" in that is fucking ridiculous. Watching the opening credits - name after name... it finally gets to "co-starring" - and the names keep fucking rolling.
      • FFS - Samuel L Jackson with maybe less screen-time than Deep Blue Sea
      • Gandolfini - pretty early in his career, being given a shot, and hitting it out of the park?
      • Then let's just throw Dennis fucking Hopper in there for a single awesome racist monologue
      • Never even realised that Val Kilmer was ghost-Elvis
    • Been a while since I've watched this too... bizarrely, I keep getting it mixed up in my mind with the one where somebody gets hired to kidnap his boss' daughter, then falls in love. Ewen McGregor and Cameron Diaz, now that I think about it - I think? And then I get these conflicting memories as to whether it's any good or not, and then shy away from watching it.

But yeah - actually fucking good.
