I remember with surprising clarity meeting Pinetree at a function, sharing a drink or two, having a chat and my wife says I was like a child meeting his hero.

Finding a cure is a fool's errand IMHO.

Unfortunately, that's close to the truth. Preventing cells from turning cancerous effectively would mean humans could replicate their cells perfectly and hence not age. We'd become immortal.

There is research into treatments that seek out cancers cells based on proteins or other biological markers that they have which differ from healthy cells. Treatments could mean true targetted therapy one day. Who knows if any of us will be around to see it

Wrong thread , apologies, rumours Colin meads passed away

Very sad news for his family and the rugby world.

While we all knew it was coming, its still bloody horrible.

Surprises me that in this day and age of remarkable technology, there is still no cure for bloody rust...

    Leg End.
A hero in our household, and we were all backs!

As an aside I'm very much of the belief that cancer is in all of us and with some the switch is flipped and it becomes deadly.

Finding a cure is a fool's errand IMHO

    Fuck, that's a bit bleak Mike 😦

Difficult to believe otherwise when so much time and money has been invested in so many brilliant minds over such a long period of time and we're still no closer.

We know the triggers, but when so many roll the dice of drinking, smoking, drugs, bad diet and minimal exercise and don't get cancer the risk reward seems worth it for the masses.

It certainly works for me 😁

Legendary All Blacks flanker Sir Michael Jones has revealed the words of Sir Colin Meads in the wake of New Zealand's defeat to France in 1995. Acting as manager of the All Blacks at the time, Sir Colin oversaw the 22-15 defeat to France in Toulouse, taking the post match team talk himself.

Speaking to 1 NEWS today, Sir Michael spoke about the fury Sir Colin unleashed on the beaten team, even clearing other management out of the room.
"He told us we'd been playing like a bunch of so and so's. We were pretty much a disgrace to the All Blacks jersey" Sir Michael said.
"To be able to tell that to Sean Fitzpatrick, Zinzan Brooke, all these seasoned All Blacks that they were a disgrace, there was only one person who could do that."

Wow, that was truly something that I am pleased to have witnessed. Hopefully there will be someone that puts it up on YouTube so those that were not able to watch it live can also view it later.

I am lucky enough to have witnessed The Tree play live, once and only the once mind you, when King Country challenged HB for the Shield in 1968 (?). Sadly I was too young to have any recollection of the match but at least I can hold my hand on my heart and say "I was there and saw the great man play in person."

Yeah, I really enjoyed that too. There were some funny stories told, particularly the comparison between the modern day rugby player and those from the 1960/70s from BJ.

Absolutely fantastic interview there, piece of history, just an amazing man, great stories from the legend that is Colin Meads, for good reason.

I'd take that going out at his age and still completely lucid and remembering all the details of his career like they were yesterday.

Not sure about the url, need to register or subscribe at allblacks.com to see it I think.

@infidel yeah nah. Nearly 50 years since I saw my first AB test but even if I'm only hurting myself I'm buggered if I'm going to register "to join a team like no other" Fluffybunnies

As an aside, wouldn't it be cool if the actual Meads Cup trophy won by the Heartland Champions was changed to be a replica version of the Meads statue that was unveiled in Te Kuiti earlier this year? Similar in look to the NRL trophy...

I was mortified last month, I couldn't find my signed copy of the Vesey book. Spent a couple hours in storage last weekend searching for it, and found it! The relief and exhiliration that overcame me was better than sex.
