Panhead is OK because it makes it possible to drink something palatable in a Lion pub.
I've been enjoying Pow Wow Azzaca & Sabro Lupulin IPA from Rhyme and Reason.
Agree with @nzzp's brewery's. Supajuice is one I always end a session with but I would add Behemoth to his list instead of McLeods.
Has anyone noticed prices have increased since COVID. What was $12 for a 400 ml glass is now more like $14. Four quiet beers of an evening is now over $50.

Yeah I met a mate prior to the Canes/Chiefs game at the Thistle. I shouted cos he'd had work troubles over lockdown. $4 change from a 50. It's ridiculous.

I came through the 'Naki on my move to Wgtn... and was gutted that Mike's had moved out of their old rural spot. Dropped in for a couple of pints in their new spot in town... but didn't have any room for picking up a sixer (moving house via motorcycle).
They do have some bloody good drops. Although I don't remember the TIPA being so strong... I couldn't really justify having one with being about to get back on the road.Once I get settled into the new job, I might have to consider a bit of a road-trip to see some of those others.
(Actually - did stop off at the Martinborough one, after a day-trip out to Palliser from Carterton... they were alright.)
These breweries really need accommodation, in order to get the most of my willing custom. Hot Water Beach Brewing is fucking awesome - brewery, food, cabins, campsite - all in one place. That's how you make money from this sucker. -

It's bloody hard to keep track of all the beers I've sampled, then there's the whole thing of seeing one that you enjoyed previously in the supermarket and grabbing it only to be disappointed the second time round. Wrong temperature ? better out of a tap ? time of year ? all things to be considered. ....
The Marty brewery is a good spot. Had a few with @NTA there while pointing out that Brad Haddin is a worse person than Hitler. He nodded sagely.

Yep - even the GP Sep20 I was talking about; incredible fresh from their taproom, and just 'really good' at Peachs a few days later. I wasn't going to drink, but saw it on tap.

I've combined my love of beer with my love of lifting heavy things and been really careful about other vices. So far so good.....
it's probably a good thing that I physically can't drink anywhere near as much beer in a sitting as I could do easily in my 20s. Craft Beers bloat ya like nothing else......

Not sure if you have been to Brewtown yet but don't expect too much in the way of stuff you haven't already seen. Too me taprooms are where you go to try the experiments, hand pulls or small batches. Only really Panhead have other releases.
The place is great as a destination for some good food (Panhead best) and beer though. -
for those on this side of the ditch, i finally found something decent that comes fro Canberra, this bad boy
Plenty of flavour, but still dangerously sessionable at that 5.7% mark. A real golden colour to it, hops but not overwhelmingly so. Can recommend. Will smash.

Stone & Wood Pacific Ale is my every day beer, and it's a fucking ripper.
Had one of these the other day, same standard, more flavour, more booze. Felt sessionable, but that hasn't been tested.

Best selection for range of styles I have been coming across has been at the Fork and Tap in Arrowtown. Usually 4 on the cask and a good dozen or so on tap.
Cargo Brewery down there does a few nice drops too. The brewery out at Gibbston is a great outdoor spot with a ton of room for kids to run around well away from the adults and is a good destination to aim for if you do a bike ride.
They have also taken over the old restaurant at the bottom of the Coronet Peak Road and converted it to a pub.Their 'Old English' is one of the best ESBs I have found in NZ

Not sure if you have been to Brewtown yet but don't expect too much in the way of stuff you haven't already seen. Too me taprooms are where you go to try the experiments, hand pulls or small batches. Only really Panhead have other releases.
The place is great as a destination for some good food (Panhead best) and beer though.I stopped off at Brewtown on my way into town (I kinda zig-zagged across the North Island on my final move down) - but it was a Tuesday when I came through the Hutt, and too early for the places that do open that early in the week for alkies.
I've been considering a weekend trip up there... that's a place that needs some accommodation options... I see they've got a space for motorhomes or other self-contained campers... not sure they'd accept a motorbike with tent tied to it. Maybe I'll look into the public transport option... I've never used Wellington trains, no idea if it's a sensible/reliable/regular option. -

Little bit slow on a weekend as there aren't any express options running but a short walk from UH station to Brewtown. (Run every 30 mins on a weekend and take 40 minutes). Not bad if you consider it will take 25-30 on your bike.
