Yeah bridge is fucked, so might not make it there

Vultures is my favourite. I am biased.
They do a pie and a pint for twenty bucks, and the pies are absolutely top tier. differnet fillings, but a meal in themselves. Strong recommend along with the fried chicken (solid, used to be top top tier, now just good)
That same visit I tried A-As... my first evening I defaulted to Vultures, from very OLD memories of Akld. It wasn't exactly as I remembered it - but yeah... it does what it does, and what it does - is mostly what I want.
Except they forced a free pie on me at the end. One night's custom, and they insisted I walk out with a free pie.. "for breakfast". It seemed like a well-built pie, but probably not as appreciated as well as it should have been.
16 Tun - I think is where my workmates insisted I eventually go on my 2nd evening there... and it did indeed have a decent selection, but not worth the fucking walk with the bridge out. It seemed stereotypical 09-pretentiousness to go all that distance for something not much better than Vulture's or even just any bog-standard pub Viaduct bar with a few brews on tap.

@Machpants make sure yuo post a match report when you get home! Keen to see your take on the city beers (and if you felt any major changes downtown, better or worse)

I don't rate Andrew Andrew at all. 16 Tun is pretty meh. Vultures Lane is OK but nothing special. Every time I've been I've found what was on offer a bit underwhelming.
Catch a bus from outside Commercial Bay and head across to the Birkenhead Brewing Co. Would take less time that to walk to 16 Tun even if the bridge was open. Pies are supposed to be primo but it's always an interesting range of beers. Live music about 3x a year.
Tell them dogmeat sent you and they won't have a fucking clue what you're on about

"hi Birkenhead Brewing Co. I'm paying you for a visit because I heard about your pies. I'm supposed to mention dogmeat."
What could possibly go wrong?? -

We're planning on doing a weekend thereabouts another time, last time I spent any time out on the North Shore was when I cycled around both islands with the UK forces - 30 years ago. Will file that for the next dirty weekend with the wife

@Kruse @Machpants don't love Andrew Andrew
Vultures Lane - just a great small craft beer bar with decent pub grub. Sit downstairs if you don't like humans
Brewers Cooperative has a good beer range and decent fish and chipsbolded text. Solid no 2.
16 Tun is very good, but a bit out fo the way.AndrewAndrew is a bit weird, and definitely second tier, along with brew on quay.
have fun!
Seconded, The Brewers Co-operative - NZ Craft Beer Bar & Fish & Chips on 128 Victoria Street West, Auckland is a venue I will always make time to visit when I'm in Auckland. Approximately 20 taps with beers from all over NZ plus a good collection of bottles.
Great food as well.
Also not far away is the Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen which has a decent but not more than that selection of beers on tap.

Thank you both, at my age a solid number 2 is nothing to sniff out, will def put this on the list when next in town.

I've been there are a couple of times, and thought it was pretty lousy to be honest. Mediocre selection. Bar tender got offended when I said I didn't like one of his suggestions. Beer isn't good just because it's from NZ ...
Is the old Corner Bar at Hotel De Brett still there? Good selection and good staff.
Brewers Co-op is very solid.

Awesome.
Yeah, just getting into them. Couple of decent ones on tap in Cornwall

Muntons West Coast IPA. Chinnok, Columbus & Summit hops. 7.5% alc.
Quite complex but not 100% sure it's for me. Not a "relaxing" beer if you get what I mean but that might be my inexperienced palate. More experienced beer aficionados will be sampling in the weeks ahead. Will update.

Hard to go wrong with an IPA of that strength. Nice looking head on it too. I suspect it’s pretty decent

I've got the 5L keg and beer dispenser pretty much sussed now. Might keep a keg of this for a couple of months to see how it goes/improves.
