Trucking along, not much to write except still keeping things up as best I can. Frustratingly my right ( weaker ) elbow is still in pain despite all the Deep Heat and ice I’ve been putting on it and it makes a couple of push up variations extremely tough. I might have to take it easy on certain exercises and perhaps being 44 means it is taking longer than usual to recover.
I’ve also stopped hitting the tire and have started hitting sand at the beach instead to fuck myself up even more ! Seriously, this is an even tougher variation as you don’t get the bounce back you do when you hit the tire and you have to “muscle” the hammer back into position more ( again, this is one to do when there’s no one around as you tend to get funny looks smashing big holes in the sand ).
That's a nasty injury. Hopefully it heals asap.
He he. You literally pound sand.

…..amongst other things if I play my cards right with the mrs….
A nice start to the morning with some Sonny Liston jumps and Superman push ups in the hotel, again, lucky I’m on the ground floor. No elbow aggravation with these whatsoever but if I occasionally bang it on the car door or whatever I know all about it.
Have also planned out the obligatory big walk around the waterfront late in the avo for shits and gigs.
-
Double blast of the legs this morning with ninja jumps and sonny listons ( for want of a better word ). Legs fucken burning after that which is a good sign.
For shits and gigs last week I walked past where I used to practice my vertical leaps ( wearing jeans and semi formal shoes ) and had a go and blitzed my previous best by a good few inches ( ie instead of touching the gutter I could have easily grabbed it and hung on ) which was pretty cool despite not actually doing the movement in ages. @Rancid-Schnitzel tell the boy if he’s still into his leaping to practice lots of other moves as well which seem to supplement them well.
Nothing else particularly exciting to report. Like us all I’m trying to delay the ageing process as much as humanly possible. Living in my apartment while the good lady and I are house hunting is very limiting for indoor exercise but we’re making do. She’s setting up a pilates mat in the lounge so who knows, I might start that again !
Elbow still stinging each morning but gets better as I move around during the day. Throwing lots of air jabs with my shadow boxing seems to get it right as well, rather concerningly when throwing my straight left at my boy while doing some rough housing we heard some rather loud “clicks” as each punch was thrown. Ah well, I am 44 years old !

Saw a good video on YouTube about how important it is to continue to do functional exercises as you age because once you stop it becomes a type of "lost power" that is very difficult if not impossible to get back. Case in point is box jumps. Never do those and the next time you may be required to jump down from even a modest height your knees will explode or at least feel like they have.

You look bloody good for 44 btw!

@rancid-schnitzel use it or lose it, applies to your physical and mental side.
Was reading something the other day, and an activity as simple as brushing your teeth, doing it with your less dominant hand is great for your brain!

Yeah good for the cognitive abilities and all that……fairly sure I’;ve never brushed my teeth with my right hand so I’ll give this a go tonight !

100%. Particularly if you’re carrying an extra 50 kg than the last time you attempted them.
Old knees and excess weight are a disastrous combo.

Have had over a week of doing nothing except for about 10-15 minutes shadow boxing a day. The body is thanking me for it particularly the joints. I recommend this to recharge ( although can’t imagine some of you keener blokes actually doing it ! ) It’s if that week becomes another…..then another…..then issues might creep in.
Xmas piss up season is upon us though so I need to get back into it and plan accordingly so as to not blob out completely over Summer. With my Scots heritage being a “Bronzed Adonis” is out of the question but I need to at least maintain “Pasty Adonis” status for when the t shirt comes off on hot days.
-
Jeepers ! Haven’t updated this for awhile, have been doing more of the same old just a bit more socialising at this time of year which is understandable. Just bought a nice new house and have already staked out ample garage space for workouts for when we move in Feb. Loads and loads of good walking spots too !
As always will do my absolute best not too put on too much ( if any ) Xmas weight.
-
Loads of strict diamond push ups in the morning. About 100 or so over a few sets. Then later on at the park loads of chins. Plank later on. All set to undo it over the next day or so…..but then get back on the wagon ( with lots more beer than usual )
Don’t use the holidays as an excuse to be a fat fluffybunny ferners, keep hustling !!!
-
About eight or nine beers on Xmas day, not too bad and a bit of a stroll on the beach with the other half. The meal was mainly salmon, potatoes and loads of greens which suited me. Total booze free day yesterday and a few planks and a bit of shadow boxing between lounging on the couch watching cricket.
Off to Hawkes Bay tomorrow where I’m informed there’s a bit of a cross fit type set up in the garage which could be fun, weather looks cool and drizzly too which suits me, I HATE exercising in extreme heat.
-
Back from the Bay and can confirm it was hot as all fuck so not as much exercise was done as I’d hoped. Food intake was decent, ( lots of meat direct from the farm and fresh fish ) and as expected the beer flowed as well, far less craft beer but lots of export/corona which has less calories but the flipside is you drink more. Not a huge amount of specific exercise as such other than hooning on the biscuit ( surprisingly tough on the UBS to hold on at high speeds ) and a few sprints on the lawn with the boys and shadow boxing.
Weight stayed exactly the same as when I left so that’s a win, I managed to intermittent fast most of the time so I think I put it down to that.
This year the girl and I are gonna set up a bit of a gym type room in the huge garage at the new place when we move in feb. I’m gonna get a tire to flip/hit with the sledgehammer, get some battle ropes, hang the punching bag and a few weights to add for push ups/chins. I might even get a workout app instead of the old school pen and paper set up I have currently.
Keep smashing 2022 everyone and remember, there’s NO excuse for being a fat slovenly fluffybunny.
-
Be sure to send pics of the new gym set up. Wish the gf would park on the street so I can build my own "pain cage" but she's unreasonable like that.

I’m sweet cos I don’t mind parking on the drive and she doesn’t have a car.
I’m hoping it looks like a shitty old school Boxing gym, not sure if photos will be particularly exciting but I’ll do my best !

Nothing particularly exciting to report except I can now do pull ups ( not chin ups ) with much less pain than before in the elbow which is exciting given I didn’t do much with it other than rest it and deep heat the shit out of it, apparently the stench was so overpowering I woke up to an empty bed on a couple of occasions as the girl decided the spare room was a better option. Never hurt when doing chins, just pull ups.
With these and diamond push ups ( you know those nasty ones ) I’m experimenting with super slow reps for a few weeks ( in amongst power type stuff the other days ). Loving it so far, the burn is incredible.
For the chins I literally do one rep of 45 seconds up, 45 seconds down ( if I can manage that ). Try it, absolutely brutal.

Pull ups can be murder on the joints. Definitely a different beast to chins.
-
@rancid-schnitzel I tend to do more neutral grip ones than pull/chin ups, find they are alot less stress on things.

They're good actually. But probably difficult for @MN5 to find a tree or pipe or whatever the fark he uses that can accommodate neutral grip!
