Tim Henson of Polyphia is of the same math-rock vein. Crazy talent.

Another of Mrs M's son's guitar heroes.

    @Victor-Meldrew amazing

Also - to answer the title of this thread accurately, right now I am sitting in a hotel room in Rome, family all asleep, quietly Ferning while listening to some kid-genius on the violin in the piazza outside. Good times

I love Hendrix but I’m not even triggered by your comment because I kind of get it. Before him guitar playing was all jingly/jangly Beatles/Byrds/Rolling Stones shit. He ABSOLUTELY changed the game and pretty much single-handedly invented the guitar hero. He did stuff no one had thought of……he had soul, coolness, charisma and uniqueness……and it was all gone so soon.

The bits in bold are spot on. The rest of it...... not so much.

There are some very unique guitarists around. This guy, Plini, is an Aussie.

As guitar seems to be flavour of the day, it's getting late and I'm off to bed, here's a bloke I'm seriously getting into.

Yes. Got emotional watching it. Some serious courage and bravery going on there.

I always liked his songs in a MOR way, but never realized he was a genuine guitar Master of the Universe who could play almost any genre as good as or better than anyone until a month or so ago. Or that Jimmy Webb wrote some of the greatest songs ever specifically for him.

I have a whole lot of listening to do...

@MN5 Look at the bits that aren't bolded. Before Hendrix guitar wasn't all jingly jangly shit and he wasn't the first guitar hero.

Hendrix's playing has certainly changed guitar playing no disputing that especially his use of the fuzz pedal and feedback but some of his innovation was technology, some was taking existing techniques like use the thumb of his fretting hand to play the bass notes. Some of it was luck - right time right place. Guys like Buddy Guy didn't get the same breaks.

Absolute genius but you do consistently denigrate stuff you don't personally ignore but can't see that it was innovative at the time.

It's like bigger, faster, better wingers that Jonah may come along but doesn't mean he wasn't a force of nature at the time

    Not really.

Just giving my opinion that he was the biggest game changer. I’m fully aware there were other Guitar Heroes at the time. Clapton himself said he was blown away when he saw Jimi play for the first time.

Buddy Guy was a hell of a blues man though, my old man is a big fan.

McCartney at Glastonbury playing in the background.

Springsteen doing Glory Days with Macca doing support and I'm caught by Macca's bass playing - which you normally take for granted. Driving, uber-solid, distinctive but totally unflashy and just perfect for the song.

Man can play a mean 4 string.

@Victor-Meldrew the guy is just uber talented, but it's that restraint to 'just' lay a mean bassline that makes him something else aye. Dude just lives and breathes music and is happy leading or contributing. Hard to feel miffed if you are slappin the bass while Springsteen is ripping it up. Especially as it is Bruce's song.

Anyone get interested in dancehall/reggae inspired Drum and Bass? I've been trawling through some solid YouTube content but the old stuff is hard to find... possibly as I was a bit too focused on fun to remember wtf I was listening too back in the day.

    It’s how Bass players roll.

Never overplays and serves the song? Seen a few videos about Ringo which say exactly the same thing - ditto Charlie Watts

Saw him on his Farewell Tour.

One of the best gigs I've had the privilege to attend.
