@Hooroo god i hate Lynyrd Skynyrd
Freebird is a bit like November Rain, Smoke on the Water, Epic, Under the Bridge, Stairway to Heaven etc. It's the signature song from a band that you grow to absolutely despise over time.....as I pretty much do with all those listed despite otherwise loving the bands other less famous works.
THIS song is cool though, fair to say there were a few future Trump voters in the audience.

Totally agree although most of the above songs remain to bands I like.
I'm a real late bloomer towards Led Zep. Used to hate them, including Stairway to heaven, but now I find myself listening to more and more of them and one song has probably encroached into my top 10, that being Misty Mountain Hop

I'll go to my grave saying Zep are the greatest overall Rock band of all time. All brilliant individuals but together they were just something else.

So much of their lesser popular stuff is great.
The missus's ute has The Sound as the radio station of choice and in May, every weekend they did 3 in a row all day. So if it was Led Zep they would do three and they always did two well or relatively well known songs and one lesser known. It was great as they play a lot of Led Zep and all those older bands. A lot of the Doors too which I have always liked.

Love Led Zep, very indifferent to Stairway

I'll never agree more with any of your posts like I do this one.
I'd rank Jimmy Page as "only" the 4th best guitarist of that era but in terms of listenablity he shits on the other three.
The chemistry the band had was out of this world.
The Doors were an awesome band too, particularly Jim Morrison as a frontman and Ray Manzareks keys playing.

for all my indifference to Stairway, my favourite Zeppelin song is the equally self-indulgent "Kashmir"

Probably mine too.
A quick ( anything to avoid paperwork ) top ten Zep songs for me would be.....
Kashmir
Black Dog
Over the Hills and Far Away
The Rain Song
Dazed and Confused
Trampled Underfoot
No Quarter
Song Remains the Same
What is and what should never be

@voodoo here it is for his for hers for better for worse....
I love that band. Saw them live 8 years ago with Crowded house. They stole the show
With Che Fu? That would have been awesome. Last saw them live at whatever the Waikato Uni pub was called back in the day.

Yeah they all got back together to do a few gigs with Crowded house at Vector.

I always thought Sweet Home Alabama was their signature song. Probably as I had no exposure to Freebird until later in life.
I'm not a Led Zep fan, have tried to get into them but just can't do it. Same with the Stones. Two massive bands I just can't listen to.

I 100% don't get this song. I don't like it. People love it. But the usual blah blah blah would be a boring world if we liked all the same stuff.

Mine is the Beatles.
I consider the Beatles to be the most overrated band in history. None of them are great musicians, there isn't a strong voice among them. What they did was write a pretty catchy pop song at a time when the alternative was total shithouse.
Important? sure. Great? Get the fuck out.

Each Beatle individually has released what I consider a classic song, "Imagine", "Live and Let Die" and "My Sweet Lord".....sorry Ringo.....make that "most" Beatles. Massively overrated as a unit though.
Stones are about the same level I reckon. "Gimme Shelter" and "Miss you" are good to sing along to in the car though.

I love the Beatles, and they gave the Stones one of their early hits
Odd that you love the Stones yet in this post you call them total shithouse.

Freebird
The whole "play freebird" story is amusing. It became a catch phrase for fans and spread, but the best bit was when someone shouted "play freebird man", the band just stopped and said "we are", and they were.

I don't love the Stones. I love 10-15 of their songs. Which is actually a pretty small percentage
My dad fucking loves them
