How well has he been playing in France?

Well, it depended if he looked interested or not. He used to be outstanding when it mattered and his distribution was always superb. A few brain explosions (late and high tackles), which is surprising for a guy with plenty of experience.

@Bones Carter always said he liked having Nonu outside him as a bail-out option. I agree the other parts of his game overshadowed that aspect but the ability to punch up the middle was always there. An absolute nightmare to defend against.

    Hmmm....when did he say that?

Oh gezz you want me to back up a claim with evidence? You know where you are posting right?

I often heard him talk about how good it was to have someone who can reliably get front-foot ball outside him, I guess I could try and dig up some quotes...

Yeah I imagine he probably said something similar to that - although I'd guess it was pre-2012 (at the very latest). I'm thinking probably around 2010/11.

    Found this from 2013:

"He's just one of those reliable guys to get you over the gain line whenever you need it. When you need the ball going forward he's a bit of a go-to man. His footwork, his strength, are real attributes ... his experience as well. He's played in a lot of big matches in his career so in an occasion like this he's nice and relaxed and thinking clearly as well."

I don't think we really needed him to play that role later in his career given the pack we had.

Personally, I would rather give DC the exemption to come back and play the WC. He still looks magnificent and playing good rugby too.........

I don't know the incessant calls for Mo'unga to start 10 got a bit tiring toward the end of the season I can only imagine what it would be like if DC were in play.

Yes, while it was said a little tongue in cheek, I still think he would run a better backline than Barrett

Nah they are just going to put Barrett on the team sheet, and play both Jordie and Beaudy in 15, and hope no one notices we've got sixteen on the field

@mariner4life that's why we need Ben from accounts - no one else can count that high.

One of the greatest All Blacks to wear the Jersey ever. If he can make the AB World Cup squad at 37 it would be an exceptional achievement, a fairytale comeback.

I don't think we'll see Ma'a Nonu at the World Cup this year, but hey we'll always have this:

He is far and away the best 12 the ABs have ever had surely.

    Goodhue.

Ben can have a bench spot with any other Highlander, Chief, Hurricane or Blue...
