@Damo Guptil I think has normally batted well in English conditions

When Guptill got out, why did they send in Ross Taylor? What was the point?

Why not send in e.g. Todd Astle? Or de Grandhomme?

It's like subbing on Richie McCaw for the last 10 minutes, when the ABs are up 50-0 and there's another dubutant loose forward on the bench.

@Chris-B Deciding to bowl first was a stupid decision in the first place. Our top order could have done with the practice of batting in swinging conditions which they'll see plenty of in the WC.

This series is nothing more than a chance to get a bit of form under the belt. Good to see Guppy cashing in, and Kane making a score (he's had a bit of a lean run in ODIs this year).

We need to sort our fielding out though, that's going to cost us dearly against the top teams.

It is a bit of a thorny one. In one sense he is a top order batsman and his job is to get runs and as it worked out 21 not out gives the average
a slight boost but I guess the flipside is perhaps he wants to protect the average and as you say send someone in to whom it isn't such an issue?

It's kinda like using a night watchman in tests which I feel is tough on a bowler who may have slogged away all day and then get asked to do something he isn't a specialist in.

I think if they are now preparing for the World Cup, they need to play as they would at the World Cup, so if bowling first is correct for the conditions, do it, and if moving towards a clear win, presumably in England they would continue with Taylor in similar circumstances.

So I guess to what degree has this season has been......

    a) Black Caps being very good

    b) India being off the charts

and c) Sri Lanka/Bangladesh being shithouse

I'm picking major elements of all three.

HaHa, the Saffas might debate you on (c)

3rd ODI is underway, good thing is we are batting first
    26/1
No surprise Munro has gone early, fair to say he won’t be heading to England in a couple months time...
Edit: great thing is Nicholls is in early enough to be considered an opener..

Yeah Munro isn't making the CWC squad now. Probably opens up a slot for Sodhi if Stead wants to take three spinners to the CWC.

this is such a fantastic effort and massive for anyone let alone a Black Cap. GOAT at ODI level ? I think so. Given he walks into an all time test team too I'm gonna go on record saying she's gonna be a sad day when he hangs up the pads.

    Terrible death batting so far.

Last two overs gone for only 5 runs. Not good enough fullas.
Time for Tom to start swinging the bat too.

It's pretty good that our bowling unit are decent lower-order batsmen. CdG and Santner have pushed us to 319 with an over to go.

    330/6
Least 100 runs too many for the bangles you would think.

If Neesham, CDG can come off more often then not that gives us a potent lower middle order for the WC

weird scoreboard. No big individual efforts but enough decent contributions and by the looks of things some big hitting from the Neesh and CDGH.

I applaud your bravery in going out on a limb like that 🙄

I think he's in, as well.

First choice XI - Guptill, Nicholls, Williamson, Taylor, Latham, Neesham, CDG, Santner, Henry, Ferguson, Boult

    Spare batsman/allrounder - Munro
    Spare keeper - Seifert
    Spare seamer - Southee
    Spare spinner - Astle

Proviso that Sodhi or Milne might yet take one of the spare slots - but, I can't see really see an alternative to Munro - unless Corey Anderson suddenly comes good. Even then - he's not going to cover the top order batting spots.

No saying I agree with it. I just can't see them getting rid of him this late in the piece.

Southee has found a touch of form, currently 3/1 from 2 overs, not a bad start.
