well my shoulder took a turn for the worse over the weekend, was doing some back stretches and have levered up with my right shoulder (as I have done all the time) but something didn't feel that good and was more pain.

Last night was something else though, woke at about 1am in excruciating pain, spent 30 mins contemplating driving myself to hospital to get some good drugs...fortunately the ibruprofen I had kicked in and I watched Netflix for a bit until I fell asleep again.

Got an appointment this morning for an MRI & X-ray... 😞

ugh, that is no good bro. Hopefully the scan shows something and they can sort it via physio or an op (ACC funded! or private if you've got insurance).

Was the pain in the same place when you woke overnight? My gym bro had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago where his shoulder woke him up too. Personally I think you guys probably rub too many out, but I'm sure there could also be a genuine training injury too 🙂

    Good luck getting it sorted!

basically whole shoulder was in pain...previously I was able to lift shoulder over head, stretch back, now can barely lift above my hip without pain.

Physio said possibly some calcification there, which may have been the initial issue, but says best to get MRI/X-ray to confirm.

It is ACC but I have private insurance as well.

Haha, it is my right hand too...

so possible very minor tear but seems some calcification is the issue, possibly whatever I did on the weekend has managed to get the calcification outside the joint or something, so now when I move it, nothing moves smoothly and causes pain.

Apparently a number of ways to deal with it...

    @taniwharugby
Im a physio if you want any second opinions. Shoulders are a complex beast. Calcification sounds like a bit of a BS diagnosis. This doesn't come out of nowhere. Calcification is a response to prolonged stress.
Xray isn't going to show much. I would be more after Ultrasound and MRI given you have (judging by your posts) had a couple of DFO (drunk and fallen overs).

Happy to give a second opinion im pretty awesome at shoulder rehab.

@magpie_in_aus yeah they did an MRI as well. Said that a small tear may have been an old injury (only shoulder issue was early 2000's prior to this, I'm 43)

That was what the lady that did the MRI said, but Dr said there is a small tear and didn't mention the Calcification.

Up until the weekend, I had been feeling much better with it and the stretches I was doing were getting good flexibility back.

My drunken activities are far and few between (as I get older and make much, much better decisions...) and would probably need to be pretty delayed to be linked??

Now, basically if I have my hands out in front like handshake position, and push horizontally outwards it hurts, and reckon about 30deg is the extent of being able to lift my arm, although if I use my left I can lift it up and once I get my elbow to shoulder height, the pain reduces considerably.

I have an appointment with my Physio on Friday

    Shoulder update:

So 90% of time, shoulder is good, every now and then I wake in the night with some pain, but is getting less and less. I actually have more movement than I did a fortnight ago.

Still some pain if I move suddenly (like you drop something and reach out to grab it 😞 )

This time last week I couldn't raise my arm above maybe 30 deg, now I have full range (more than I had 3 weeks ago) but is a bit tender through the middle of the movement)

Have a referral in to see a specialist, through ACC so just waiting now...luckily pain has subsided (have some good drugs in case it returns) as the pain I had last week was like nothing I have ever experienced before!

so a bit over a week since injection and my shoulder feels so much better.

I have more movement now than I did prior to my 1st physio appointment, still a couple of movements that have a bit of restriction (behind back being the worst, but still massively better than a few weeks back)

I also did some push ups last night and not even a hint of pain or little twinge, so that's nice.

Look to start getting back into doing proper exercises again (with some shoulder specific ones for this as well)

So a whole heap of things (weather, kids sports, Course Work, lame excuses) conspiring to stop me from exercising at moment, but once you get back on the horse it's always good.

Did a good workout on Sunday and also yesterday, body really struggling today, tight muscles everywhere, shoulder not hindering any exercises, although problem shoulder a bit tighter than the other today.

Also need to get back to do a bit of running, despite not really enjoying running (well road running) always feel the benefit of it.

Hovering around 94kg at moment, which is where I want to be, so is about redistributing the weight as bit better 🙂

bought myself a 9m battle rope today.

5 sets of 40 secs and I was fucked! Add in burpee/box jumps, sumo squats, knee raises and then some sprints on the treadmill and the body is aching already.

I've never had a go on battle ropes but definitely something I'd be into.

Have you got any big trees on your property? You can do rope climbs too. They're always a hit on social media.

@mn5 nah when we bought the section about 5 years back, it was a completely bare sheep paddock...while I have a number of trees up about 5-6m already, none with high enough and strong enough to put ropes on them.

I use the massive swing just down the road from where I live. By the time my trees grow on my land in foxton I'll be too old to climb rope.

That's a fairly solid effort TR. Especially when you consider 10.15 for 2.4 km would get you in the Police in the late teens/early 20s bracket. Great work.

@mn5 TBF, the police run isnt that tough, when I did it about 4 years ago, I did it 11.10mins for it, which was a couple of mins under for my age IIRC (amusingly it was my birthday the day before which pushed me up a bracket and gave me an extra 40 sec or so I didnt need haha)

It was a flat run too, which makes it easier, but a bit boring, cant wait for the longer days when I can do trail running in the evenings (while waiting for my kids to do after school stuff)
