Is there a thread for this thing?

    (Sorry.)

Can’t say I’ve seen or been following any of the matches save for the NZ women results, but suddenly the tournament got very-very interesting the minute I heard about the Cameroon vs. England QF which featured cheap shots, sit downs, spitting and other sad-sack debauchery, so naturally I went to youtube to watch the highlights.

On you life, do you think there’s any chance FIFA wants to show me the real highlights?

    It’s almost like mind-control.

@Salacious-Crumb apparently the Cameroon players and coach got the shits about VAR getting 3 big decisions correct. That all went against them

@Salacious-Crumb the England girls were spat on by their opponents, big no no. Might have been a little histrionic but sounds like the Cameroon girls didn't do themselves proud

Now this is a crying shame.

Women’s football cannot – and should not – be judged on one wild game

Women’s football cannot – and should not – be judged on one wild game | Eni Aluko

Women’s football cannot – and should not – be judged on one wild game | Eni Aluko

The Cameroon players deserve criticism but when male players behave despicably we seem to judge individuals rather than the whole sport

Oh, please. Might be the best thing to ever happen. I am reminded of Cale Yarborough squaring off fist-fighting with Donnie Ellison and his brother Bobby on the infield during the final lap of the 1979 Daytona 500 while Richard Petty (“King Richard”) swung ‘round to claim another checkered flag. NASCAR went Monster after that.

“Sports pundits consider the 1979 Daytona 500 to be the most important race in stock car history. ...

“The 1979 Daytona 500 brought national publicity to NASCAR. Motorsports announcer and editor Dick Berggren said: "Nobody knew it then, but that was the race that got everything going. It was the first 'water cooler' race, the first time people had stood around water coolers on Monday and talked about seeing a race on TV the day before. It took a while – years, maybe – to realize how important it was."

Cmon FIFA you pussies for your own good if you have any brains don’t waste a golden opportunity — show us the highlights.

They were a disgrace. Almost as bad were the BBC presenters who insisted on shitting on the referee instead of focusing on the Cameroon team.

Thought Neville got it spot on.

Yep, hence I said team, not just players 😉

I did laugh when he realised he had shit show of talking down a furious woman and just tried to hug her...

Been a great tournament overall with some very good matches.

The England v Cameroon match was a blip. A big one mind.

Last night's Sweden v Canada match was very enjoyable.

Looking forward to seeing how this tournament pans out.

    Netherlands v Japan

    Fantastic match.

All Japan second half, just couldn't put the ball in the net.

Netherlands through to QF with a 2-1 win.

They have higher concussion rates than the men's game as well. I think it's just a reflection of the fact that nobody hates women more than other women.

Well they're probably off to the Chinese Gulag after losing, so I'd be screaming to.

    Great series of QF matches.

    Super competitive this time round.

Massive SF tonight for England taking on USA.

Netherlands v dark horses Sweden tomorrow night.

An England v Netherlands final would be good for the game with 2 new teams contesting for the title.

The English centre backs haven't been too convincing. USA's defence has been flakey too but they look much more dangerous going forward.

@Bovidae I don't know much about soccer but England are way too stand offish on defence and far too many unforced errors with the ball. USA just don't make them.

@Bones Too much route one football from England as well.

The commentator said that Spain got in USA's faces in their game so that is what England needs to do. Deny them time on the ball and space.

I'd like the Dutch to win it, assuming they get past Sweden.

England could have won that game but didn't take their chances. USA did what they needed to do.

When England believed in themselves and played football they had the USA on the ropes.

    Unfortunately didn't happen enough.

Ultimately the Americans were more skillful which gave them more time and space on the ball.

They obviously felt they could win without risking Rapinoe, who has been their standout player. If she plays the margin would probably be greater because she has carried them so far

The commentator said that only 1 USA player has started every game as they have rotated their XI. Lloyd came off the bench in this game.

Neville seems to have based his team around Man City.

That's pretty balsey in a knock out game. I'm going to watch it later, did Rapinoe play?
