Strongly disagree. If BB stays fit, there's no reason why he doesn't have another 3-4 really good seasons left.

The key point will be when he takes his sabbatical(s) during those 4 years. If it's in 2022/23 then the Blues will still get the best of BB. As he says in the interview himself, he has personal standards and I don't see his speed declining that quickly.

How long till they ruin him like they did to the last Taranaki born canes first five they poached? I give them two years before he’s thoroughly Gopperthed and then carving up in the nh.

FFS we sign him and he's already an amputee. Surely we paid for all of him.

@Stargazer I had, and still kind of do have, high hopes for Black. But he hasn't looked that flash for the Blues. Injuries and limited game time haven't helped much though. Would we want him back or would we stick with current options.

This really hurts at a team level though. I'm all good with players moving for family and for opportunities, but BB has been a central pillar of our franchise and losing a legend is never easy.

Then again it means we can develop new options without having to juggle BB's sabbaticals etc.

Personally I think the answer is in recruiting as many Jags players as possible. If you can't beat em, sign em!

What price would the Blues pay for someone as good as Cubelli at #9 or a high quality hooker in Montaya, a colossus in the Lineout like Petti, a talented 1st five who can actually kick a ball well in Miotti.......

Jaguares love to play the Blues: Played 2 Won 2

Huh? Blues beat Jags at North Harbour a couple of years ago - Rene Ranger offload to Ihaia West for a try in a pretty dour match.

Ones where they lose don't count. Not sure if you have a grasp of this statistics thing.

    Probably a Friendly

This was an amazing signing, but he didn't look very enthusiastic at the media event.

Does anybody look enthusiastic at a media event? Just listen to the questions he had to answer, was painful.

Understandable really. I’d be looking like a man on his way to the gallows if I’d just signed for the dumpster fire that is the blues .

@Kirwan would you want to front the media and have to pretend that you wear the pants in your relationship.

Until we know what he is up to in regard to his sabbatical it is hard to gauge how good of a signing this really is.

@Stargazer Amusingly he won't be in that one next season as the two year Jersey cycle is over. Which is good, I never liked this one much.

@Tim Media are really milking this.

and now the attention will turn to the future of his brother Jordie, another Hurricanes player who is off contract and looking at other opportunities.

They are understood to be the Blues and the Highlanders, and both would welcome the services of a 22-year-old All Blacks outside back capable of playing in the midfield.

    McKendry forgot the Crusaders.

Despite any number of examples, people are often confident that speed will stay -- it's a triumph of hope over experience. Commenters here were wildly optimistic that NMS and Julian Savea were not past it just because they were heading to 30.

In Beauden's favour is that he is light, and his build don't tend to lose it as quickly. But one injury and it can be gone.

Flaky first 5 with ropey basic skills and questionable game management. He's got Blues 10 written all over him

But a great fullback. If Tana were still in charge I’m sure he would find a way for Beaudie to start at fullback 😀

How many really high profile players have switched teams? Ali Williams? Lomu? There must be others. Nonu liked to get around (though whether that was his choice).
