Have you read Total Recall from Arnold? Gives some good highlights (some old, some new) about his bodybuilding days in the beginning. Interesting reading his explanation of his mindset, and how he approached training.

Kind of crazy how much he was fitting into a day (real estate business, a degree spread out over multiple colleges because of his visa, training, working at the gym, mail order business, etc, etc, etc). He was a machine.
[/quote]

Saw pumping Iron the other day which really increased my respect for him even if he does come across as a bit of a prick. He really was an amazing athelete back in the day and its quite extraordinary what he's been able to acheive. Few people realise that he was a millionare even before he got into movies. Its weird Lou Ferrignio didnt give Olympia another shot until it was too late. Surely he would have been a shoe-in a few years later. Guess he was living the life as the Hulk.

I think, (therefore I am), that I am going to have to start running. My weight is not going to shift otherwise, and I don't want my legs getting any bigger, so it seems running will keep those muscles in check. Going to talk to my trainer, but thoughts from the luminaries of the TSF former fat bastards club?

Might take your calves a while to adjust, but start small.

My old favourite were the 10-15 km runs a couple times a week. The weight shreds off of you. Admitly it also turns you into a 1 pace Clydesdale but in your sport that probably won't be to big of an issue

I find weight just falls off me when I run too. Could be a good option Bart but only if you must!

I also meant to say like a cart horse, not Clydesdale

sooo, the jury is back with their verdict (Dr Payne, trainer). No weights for a while on the legs. I asked for 100s. He said just lay off it for a ramp of four weeks. Stink.

so might attack the stairs 108 up, and the forestry road track, 10 minutes up. Maybe even the odd hour run, but that would be odd!! Over the forestry tracks. Cart horse, here I come!! But as you said Chubb, not running for sport, running so I can get skinnier!! And I quite enjoy running in the head up and down big hillls etc. Wonder how my knees will like it though!!

that is all.

so weights continuing on as they do, spin classes etc. This morning though a RUN. about 20 minutes flat running, and 8:25 minutes up the worlds steapest hill. 20 minutes or so of walking to start and finish run, total about just under an hour. My quads hurt already!

hell yeah! lungs all good, legs fine while running, just shot to pieces now!! And another session tonight, weights - legs, or a run on the treadmill. I'll probably do the weights, even though I am not meant to - but hig reps low weights should be fine, I hopew...!!

so leg weights last night - didn't change the weights from Ness's sets, just doubled the reps. which did give me a bit of a tickle up - 40 leg press with the pause at the bottom certainly gets the sweat up, but then sets got less so was not so bad. Box squats in the smith machine were killer too - 30 for the first set again had the foofoo valve hanging out! Hamstring curls, meant to be heavy for 8 up on your elbows, than standard for 20 with a lighter weight. 16 and 40 had me breathing hard!

Spin this morning, hot as hades, so legs have certainly been hammered over the last 24 hours, can't be bad for you, and I have just realised, it's my second chest workout day today. Hope there's not too many arses at the gym!

so there were TONs at the gym on Friday, but managed to whack through a good chest workout despite the million at the gym. Yesterday was shoulders, and today another leg day - good day too, again, as I am not meant to be wokring out legs, i just used Ness's weights and doubled the reps. so super sets of 40 squats followed by 12 heavy leg extensions followed by 30 lighter extensions. Not feeling too bad right now, but expecting the worst...!!! Also 3 sets of 40 smith rack lunges, and stiff legged deadlifts thrown in there for shits 'n' giggles. We were out of the gym at 9, just when it was opening, and wow, people were flooding in! Good to have a set of keys!
