who went and got coffee this morning?
I did. I went straight from the bedroom to the kitchen like I do every morning. Espresso machine is set on a timer to warm up before I drag myself out of bed.
If there's one thing I keep well prepared for, even when travelling/tramping/camping is access to palatable caffeine.
Espresso backed up by Nespresso backed up by V60 backed up by french press.I'm a prepper.

Just back from picking up an order at Mitre10 and was amazed at the number of people they were turning away from just rocking up at the doors.
They have made it pretty clear that business is C&C or Delivery only but people must just be cruising in their cars looking for shops to go go. -
Family went on a local reconnaissance* mission at lunchtime to see what takeaways and cafes were open, and the queues were huge, with Sumner Beach having no parking available because everyone went to the cafes and parked up with their coffees.
*was intended to be to buy lunch but the queues dissuaded them.

I drove past Kfry and McDs and the lines were out of this world, probably a 2 hour wait. Ordered fish and chips instead and it's an hour and a half wait for it to be ready.
These business will be in dire need of a bit of a boost, especially the smaller restaurants/cafes etc, so good to see lots of people ordering from them.

I can't believe I didn't pick up some Restaurant Brands shares when they dropped almost 50% last month

I guess many of these people have had that cash burning a hole on thier pockets...but jeez, some of the queues seen on social media is insane!
Reminds me of when I helped them open the Kaitaia KFC on a Thursday (back when that was 'dole day') and there were drive thru queues for hundreds of metres, walk in queues almost as long...amazing what some people see as important or essential

@MN5 That’s awesome. Unfortunately not everybody got off so lightly. A young bloke we’ve known for years, my youngest nephew’s best mate, ended up having to choose between living with Mum or Dad during lockdown. It didn’t go well and last night he took his life.
He was 18.
We don’t know the cost of the lockdown yet, but protecting people at my end of the age spectrum by making kids live like this may be too high a price.

That's terrible
-
@JC damn!
That is something that has been mentioned throughout lockdown...the cost of lives that will be lost through mental illness, family breakdowns, failed business, now and for months to come, but wont be counted as a CV death, just another statistic.
That is so sad 😢
-
@taniwharugby yeah, dreadful. TBH we’re only guessing at the cause. He wasn’t happy about having to choose of course, but apparently didn’t handle the whole isolation thing well. But nobody will ever know what the real cause is.
-
@JC yea the mental illness thing no one usually does, but something like this likely triggered him or was the final of many straws.
I dread thinking of the wasted youth of today with suicide, and my son is coming to that age where it is more prevalent...

who went and got coffee this morning?
Takeaway coffee for brekkie.
Got the kids some nuggets from maccas drivethru in QT (no queue at all) at the start of our 4hr drive to Geraldine.
Stopped at Omarama for takeaway toasties and a pie for the youngest for a late lunch.
Takeaway vindaloo (us) and butter chicken (kids) for dinner. Much roti and naan.
Probably safe to say we are enjoying the move to L3

Felt a bit piggie to squeeze a 3pm pie in between the 1pm pie and the 6pm vindaloo...
I am an athlete you know...
