Coronavirus - Australia

WA government moved yesterday and are allowing groups of 10 inside and outside.
@barbarian on the numbers, the testing rates are fluctuating a bit. I know there is a bit of concern about that from the CMO.

Nah, fuck that, NO ONE in Sydney has been trapped inside for a month, and they were clearly opened for a specific purpose and those idiots just took the piss ruining it for everybody.
I'd suggest people have been kept indoors for far longer than they normally are, especially those with children.
And by my read of the coverage, it seems a lot of it came back to your definition of 'exercise'. Complaints of people 'just having a splash', negating the fact that for kids and others that does constitute exercise. Just because I'm not running a fucking triathlon doesn't mean I can't have a swim.
If it was a horde of pissed up bogans with picnic rugs and BBQs I'd agree with your viewpoint, but it seems to me the main problem is there were just too many people for a small beach like Coogee.
Seriously? People haven't been really kept indoors "far longer" than normal, I don't know anyone, including people with kids, who have been kept indoors. TBH, I spent more time 'trapped' inside during the bushfires than now.
I have friends who went down for a swim on Friday at Gordons Bay, they text our group chat straight away basically saying that the beaches will close because people are taking the piss ... not just having a 'splash'. There were lots, like them, doing it responsibly, but enough acted like idiots to make it an issue.
What in the fuck are you talking about? Every time I venture outside the shopping centres are deserted because the shops aren't open. There's fuck all traffic. Where do you think these people are hiding?
Small wonder once they could go outside to enjoy themselves at the beach they took the opportunity. And your friends are "but they didn't do enough laps"?

What are you talking about? Where did I say that all the shopping centres are open? But the fact of the matter is, as you highlight by saying "every time I venture out", that Sydney hasn't been on complete lockdown. It's not the prison camp you like to make it out to be.
I want the beaches open too, but there's enough retards out there that have ruined it for everyone. And my friends didn't say anything about laps, they just saw all the people hanging out in groups on the rocks and on the beach and figured that the authorities would notice it. And they're pissed off because they actually just want to go swimming.

Sounds like an argument of your invention. I never said Sydney was on complete lockdown. But where do you think people have been hiding? Movie cinemas? Cafes? Nightclubs?

The sooner all of us just insist on going about life as much as normal the better. Despite all the hysteria, there hasn't been a cluster traced back to people using beaches, where people tend to socially distance themselves from strangers anyway.
83% of confirmed cases in this country have recovered. Prof Murphy last Friday talking about the effective reproductive number in Australia:
You can see that, again, with various few cases in some states, you've got a very larger margin. But the middle of the blue line, of the dark blue line, in all cases except Tassie, where it's just over one, is still below one.
Their modelling excludes NT and ACT because in his words 'their case numbers are so low that there's no statistical purpose in showing them'.
-
If my maths is OK looks like 25 new cases nationally (10 NSW, 7 QLD, 3 VIC, 5 TAS, Nil in WA, SA, NT & ACT).
Would have preferred QLD to be lower ... although Queensland Health is reporting it's only 3.
Maybe there's a different reporting time??
No additional local cases (Wide Bay - includes HBay, Bundy, Maryborough, Kingaroy and other inland towns) since like ages ago. Been stuck on 24 for weeks. Only 4 still active.

I think you're missing yesterday. There's an increase in the last 24 hours of only nine confirmed cases nationally.

Yeah, you're right. Comparing 27th to 25th.
Makes sense then.

NSW has recorded just two new cases of COVID-19 overnight, the stateâs lowest increase since the crisis began.
While many older Australians are eager to get out for some fresh air, the Premier advises they should remain indoors as much as possible for the time being.
âWith the most vulnerable, Ben, we have to be careful. At the moment, weâve still said you have to stay home apart from the four main reasons.â
Those reasons, she says, are buying goods, going to work or school, exercising, and for care and medical purposes.
âItâs not a perfect science,â Ms Berejiklian admitted, but the public can expect updated conditions every couple of weeks.
âIn a couple of days, Iâll be saying to the people of NSW âthis is what May will look like for usâ.
âWe know that once you lift any restriction, youâre going to get more cases.
âBut that is the balance you have to strike, because we canât keep living like this.â

Five cases in NSW yesterday, but from Friday groups of two adults can now visit other households. What a thrill!
-
-
so good. First its Latrell and Addo-Carr going camping with the boys
Now Nathan Cleary had about 6 chicks come visit him on ANZAC day.
That May 28 return might get pushed out
-
@mariner4life worth it for Cleary I reckon!!

Has anyone gotten the $10k payout here? I applied on Monday and was accepted this morning.
Oddly, there was no expectation for me to prove my reduction in hours/income.
from Super?
-
@raznomore TBH when things need to be rushed through (and the financial support plans needed to be in this case) there's always going to be a few holes in the system I think.
I work for a company who own a couple of Higher Ed providers and one of them is definitely eligible for JobKeeper based on the revenue loss due to Covid, but the other one is eligible even though the revenue loss is based on shutting down a part of the operation that needed to be shut down (unprofitable).
TBH, if anyone can take Super I'm going to take the $10k and invest it elsewhere myself.

An Aussies heard anything about anyone getting exemptions on the enforced hotel quarantine, or heard any talk about when it might happen? I'd love to send my wife and kids back in a couple of weeks , but there is no way they could do 14 days in a hotel room. They have access to their own place where they would happily self isolate, but I can't see any exception to the hotel coming soon.
-
fat chance. you can't even get in to Qld from NSW, let alone in to the country
