The "I can't swim" thing was brilliant. I hope we never find out what happened to him.
Very likely.
Star Wars is full of characters who’s fate is unknown. Jar Jar, the locksmith guy played by Benecio Del Toro, General Veers…..the list just goes on.

Missing the point deliberately?
No one gives a shit about any of those characters or their fate.
We just had a very powerful arc with a character that you wanted to succeed and then, as @Kirwan says, did a brilliant twist and left emotions up in the air.
Think ESB and the last scenes not being shown. Even with that we would have known Luke’s fate was a cliffhanger. -

…..and you could also argue Kino Loy is a bit of a nobody compared to other characters in SW lore.

I prefer @ACT-Crusader's Crusader test teams to this bit.

Jar Jars ability to trigger is quite outstanding.
I still prefer him to a few of the characters in the last couple of movies though.

have to say i never quite got the jar jar hate.....the comic relief character thats supposed to be a bumbling fool....is a bumbling fool
i prefer him to actual plot holes like force healing...or things like "somehow palapine's returned"
anyway, andor.....im assuming we're past spoilers for last week? we only see two people running across the beach, do we think they are the only ones that survived?
really enjoying mon montha, her portrayal might be one of the better contribution to star wars canon, andor is andor...we knew how he ended up and its nice to see a bit of how he got there....but, mon as leader (one of?) the rebellion...she wasn't a scruffy rebel like almost everyone else, its the story i didn't know i wanted

Indeed, Jar Jar is a pretty crap character but no way is he as bad as people would have you think. George Lucas to his credit took on board the feedback and he was pretty much never seen again.
Another plot hole that pissed me off was Qui Gonn and Obi Wan using the “force dash” against the Droidekas but not bothering during the fight vs Darth Maul ? Also when Obi Wan was fighting Grievous and lost his lightsaber why didn’t he just levitate him and throw him down one of the nearby sinkholes ?
Agree about Mon Mothma too, they’re fleshing that character out in a very interesting way.

i prefer him to actual plot holes like force healing...or things like "somehow palapine's returned"He set the tone for how bad the prequels are for me. And I consider the final of the sequels that have those plot holes to be down on a level with the prequels so agree with those criticisms.

@Kirwan said in Star Wars VII ****contains spoilers****:
@Nepia same things were said about 3PO and Yoda. JarJar was a similar type character.
Problem with the prequels was bigger than the comic relief.
I'm not a Jar Jar hater but do think that the comic element was overplayed with the character (obviously for attracting kids and the merch opportunities) which, in turn, made the main stry arc more difficult to get across.
Not saying that the prequels should have been Andor level drama but that the balance was a bit out of whack.
Watch just the prequels and don't bring in any other knowledge and the whole rise of Palpatine/ creation of Vader machinations are a confused mess. -
@Crucial agreed, jarjar could have been better...but there were bigger problems, i will add they were better then i remembered when we re watched them all during lockdown though
I listened to a podcast a while back where the hosts "fixed" movies, their main fix for the prequels was making anakin a 15 year old street urchin (rather than a 10 year old little angel), possibly already using the force to pick pockets or steal food, lived a hard life and already with a chip on his shoulder....it was amazing how a lot of the other stuff would have fallen into place, no creepy pedo padme...even more explanation for him rebelling against the jedi way of doing things....more logical frustration at not being made master...and his fall is just reverting to type....he thought he wanted to be a jedi but he really just wanted to do things his way

You just described Ezra
-
@Crucial true, this was before rebels but maybe others have had similar ideas
edit: actually, this would have been before I had seen rebels but i think rebels was out...so maybe either filoni wanted to retell anakins youth or these podcasters saw rebels and it gave them the idea

I agree with the second sentence.
Jar Jar may have been a similar type of character as those two in the planning but not in the execution.
@Kiwiwomble I was the opposite of you when rewatching them over lockdown, they just got worse for me, especially Revenge of the Sith which I had remembered as way better in my head but having not seen it since it's original cinema run.

@Nepia i think the sequels had recalibrated my expectation on how bad they could have been
As I've probably noted many times in this thread TFA and TLJ sit way above the prequels for me. The last one sits firmly down with the prequels.
-
@Nepia and i have TFA similar to the prequels....i dont mind the fan service etc....didn't like never actually seeing the new republic....but both TLJ and RoS as miles below the rest.... a fever dream made by people that forgot they were contributing to at least a trilogy but really a much bigger universe
In general i just hate the sequels pretty much just made the original trilogy redundant...they took the best 3 films and just undid everything....in the first scenes of TFA we're pretty much back where we were at the start of aNH, bad guys have a whole army/navy and the good guys are a rag tag group of rebels....even leia....a fucking princess whole helped lead the rebellion...we never get to see her at her full power as one of the leaders of the new republic....we never see a new breed of jedi under luke...one that learnt from the arrogance of the past...not blinded to the dark side but looking for it....fuck the sequels

Not to mention…..what happened to Han and Leias relationship ?
Why is Han such a loser ( I love the character but you know what I mean, still trying lame tricks to smuggle stuff after being such a hero in the OT )
What happened to Luke ? ( I’m not satisfied with a bunch of lame flashbacks )
How can the series introduce SO many god awful new characters……even the better ones like Rey and Ren only seem that way cos Finn, Rose ( especially ), Hux, DJ etc are so bad.
The “Somehow Palpatine returned” line is unbelievably lazy storytelling and an insult to the series.
Despite the griping I will concede it’s still Star Wars. Just not “good” Star Wars.
Although how anyone can try to convince me this is worse than the prequels is absolutely baffling.
