People who don't use the correct cadence (is that the right word?) when giving their mobile number annoy me. In Australia we have 10 digit numbers. You give it out with a cadence of 4, 3, 3. It ain't that hard!

There are rules on that?
I usually find that it depends on the number itself and any pattern or natural rhythm -
@crazy-horse this is interesting. Agreed you cant just give the 10 digits with no break but i give mine as 4, 2, 4 because i a have a couple of number double ups and that flows better

I'm exactly the same.

My missus spells out her last name against the natural rhythm and I chuckle to myself when I watch the confusion she causes. If she did it to me I would want to poke her in the eye.

Well, I hope you and @Nepia don't end up having to give me your mobile number. Give it to me like that and I will be finding a ticket to write you!

id give you an address but i'm worried @Crazy-Horse will have a preference on how to type the street number
-
@crazy-horse I always have to spell my last name, and always have to start with 'B for Bravo' otherwise people use a 'V'
I give out my mobile 3-3-3, the wifes number is 3-3-4, my landline is 3-4...is much harder to take down a number when it isnt in the format your mind uses for numbers.
-
im going to start giving a trigger warning before i give out my number from now on, just to be safe
edit: have to add i love how no one can argue there needs to be some cadence to how you give your number...but lets still all have a friendly pile on about HOW its done

I have to spell out both my names and there's a part in my last name that people just never hear and then spell incorrectly. I actually think my Dad's Maori surname would have been easier for people to spell than the english version he gave us kids.
-
all three of my names are spelt just slightly different than "normal", not like modern weird spellings "its pronounced david...but with two x's and a q"...just enough that i cant just say..."like normal"
and our street address is 6 which the aussie love asking me to repeat

I don't get 6 very often, but I have had odd conversations about pens/pins, and that's with workmates from different countries.

I didn't realize numeral cadence kept modern cops sane out on the beat. In my day it was doughnuts.

Like, before I give you my ph. number, are you a cop?
Doesn't sound sus at all! -

I think it's more worrying that not keeping cadence can set an armed man off.
Also, if I was a cop your use of the American z instead of s would have set me off. I'd be accessing Police databases now trying to track you down.

I think you will find that ize can be and often is used interchangeably with ise in UK English now.
