In consultation with the experts on the internet, we can blame a combination of the following for today’s events:
The vaccine
5G
China
Trump
Russians
Global warming
PagansWho’d have thought.
Dude, what about BIG TECH and BIG PHARMA? The real culprits. Bill Gates flew into NZ yesterday, don't you know!

@donsteppa well when I got that annoying alert sound just after 8 this morning I thought fuck, musta been a bunch of new community cases over night...nope a fucking tsunami about to fuck you up.
Social media full of exaggerated reports of all
the water from Waitangi River being sucked out, even one saying the kaipara had pretty much emptied. In the end, was a small tidal surge in most places, but Civil Defence had no choice really but to issue the warning (damned if they do, damned if they dont)
I gotta say she was a pretty surreal day though, nervous anticipation!

yeah so funny, people, an hour before due arrival 1030 ish, 'we can see it coming!'

@machpants placebo effect!
Couple of the ladies at work adamant the basin had dropped hugely in short time and then risen again.
I'd used my scope and picked a spot I was gonna stand and look at, and was pretty much consistent with the tide rising possibly a bit quicker than normal.
Are pics and clips of some surges and strange tidal movements or currents but mostly uneventful

@booboo @Machpants come on the cricket has started, I didn’t have time to check out ALL of the conspiracy theorists internet chat forums, I knew you guys would pick up the slack though.
What cricket?

Well that was all a bit of an anticlimax, but I'm glad you are all safe and dry!

@machpants if you watched that not knowing it was for a tidal surge, you'd just think that's a cool clip of the tide coming in, in an estuary, probably wouldn't even notice the surges (around 1.20)

I still didn't notice - but fuck me that's a beautiful spot

@voodoo around 1.10-1.30 you see the water almost drain out completely then come right in a few times, which doesnt usually happen.
But she is a great spot alright, further round to the left up the estuary there is a bridge that is great for doing bombs and manus!

@taniwharugby And just over the way is Mermaid Pools, beautiful but with a rahui on them because they’ve been trashed after thousands of tourists came with internet fame. A little further round is pebbly beach, one of the best just walk in snorkelling spots to take the kids, a load of fish and rays. then there’s Whale Bay, Sandy’s etc etc.
