Crusaders v Highlanders (2 April 2021)

we can hope
-
Apparently, George Bridge played very well for Crusaders Development XV, last weekend, and will be available for this game as well.
Bit of a conundrum for Razor; who do you leave out if you bring him in?
-
@stargazer probably safest to avoid the confrontation and rest them all

@chris
Have him return to the bench first. -

Have him return to the bench first.I think that’s what will happen Bridge on the bench
-
It wouldn't surprise me at all if Razor comes with a few selection surprises, this week. Like starting Burke, or something like that. And maybe a rookie forward in the 23, for example Tamaiti Williams.
I think McLeod is going to lose his spot in the 23 to Bridge.
-
jesus, we havent played the same fullback two games in a row, Sio finally gets dropped though. im assuming Ioane has a niggle as Makene on the bench

@stargazer freedom out for the season? bugger
whats the difference between "unavailable due to Injury" and "Unavailable"?
-
I like that backline.
-
@gunner Think i would rather see Gregory in the midfield but yeah in general its interesting, still no Aliamalo though
-
It be seems 6 players stood down for the Highlanders
Ioane again -
Freedom Vahaakolo fractured his left foot at training.

Ioane again"Brown explained that the players had "broken the code" of the team and were dropped as a result.
"There's six guys who are unavailable through letting the team down around their standards; broke the code that we live by and it's all around their professional habits," he said."
damn it, ioane hasn;t been playing well enough to take the piss and people like MMT should be looking at stepping up

damn it
Seems to be a culture problem at the Highlanders
Josh Ioane seems to be involved a lot in that stuff
Good on Tony Brown for putting his foot on it. -
@chris yeah, its pretty disappointing, culture was one of the things the Highlanders have normally been proud of but it definitely looks like there are some trouble makers
-
-
Bridge starting this week Reece on the bench

Yeah surprised we didn't rest many players Hall and Reece on the bench.

@stargazer Ioane was benched last year for breaching Otago rules

Turned up pissed at training with Koro
-
Ioane! It is not like the ABs have a wagonload of 10s...these incidents aren't going to build him a great rep.. as for MMT, what a shame, I thought he had higher potential.
-
some fans on FB see the team, and rip into the coaches for chopping and changing and rip into the players selected, clearly having not read why the team is understrength, was a couple who read it saying they should deal with these guys internally and not punish the fans by not selecting the strongest team.
-
DLB is injured so wasn't going to be picked anyway. But he still ends up on the naughty boys list.
-
@taniwharugby i wont bag the coaches for not selecting these guys but i do want to know what the deal with Aliamalo is though, he was a big signing but we've only seen him once
-
We have no idea what the breach of protocol was and the role in that from each individual player involved, so let's not jump to conclusions. MMT still has high potential. Josh Ioane, okay, he's a repeat offender, but he can still redeem himself by playing well. The others will probably never be All Blacks, but can still be good SR players.
Let's not pretend that other players (including ABs) are saints and have never done anything wrong. This has come out because the Highlanders coaches have decided to make public there was a breach of protocol, but coaches of other squads may face the same issues and chose to deal with it differently and behind closed doors.
No need to make a mountain out of a molehill (based on limited info).

Mils pissed in a bar.....Sivi hit his wife.....Zac got nude, punched someone and pissed in a bar......they all had great AB careers.
Well, one definitely did anyway.

Brown said neither Alaimalo nor Milner-Skudder were in the selection picture for the Hurricanes game, with Alaimalo “unwell” and a few weeks away from playing.
“He's still a few weeks off coming back in and being at his best,” Brown said of Alaimalo. “He's actually a bit unwell at the moment, so we're not able to select him.”
-
@stargazer i get the sentiment but i think getting stepped down for a game does suggest its more than a molehill
i don't think anyone on here is calling for them to be sacked or something, as i a highlanders fan im just a bit disappointed they done something thats got them excluded from a big game, reminds me of highlanders teams of old, they get to the point where theyre too far off the pace and so just give up on the season
@bobily2 oh yeah, forgot about that, wonder what he has to know he'll be unwell for weeks
-
@kiwiwomble I remember how the Hurricanes stood down a few of their players during their South Africa tour, including Ardie Savea, and left them out of the following game's line-up. IIRC, all they had done was returning to their hotel late (not being drunk). It can be something really simple.
-
@stargazer team rules.
Thats where team culture starts.
We've all heard plenty of stories about things happening (at all levels) and often this ties in with teams having poor seasons.
Just hope these guys are getting the mentoring they need too, I mean Ioane now has 2 marks on his career already (if he plays well enough, it wont stop him making the step into Black again) with 2 different teams
-
Party at Ioanes place got out of hand cops were called etc
-
@chris must be a 1st 5 thing, used to be party's at Tony Browns

Ridiculous call. Jordan should be in the bin.
