Waratahs vs Hurricanes

Likely squad for this weekend after looking at photos on Getty. Will see how close I am once they actually announce the squad.
Fair play to Holland, he’s rewarded form and has given starts to Moorby, Morgan and Laubsher.
Downside is that Blackwell is back in the side so we lose a bit of size in the pack. My concern is if Laubsher goes down we will have essentially three 7s in that back row.
1. Numia
2. Aumua
3. Lomax
4. Blackwell
5. Sangster
6. Laubsher
7. Kirifi
8. Savea
9. Booth
10. Morgan
11. Rayasi
12. Barrett
13. Sullivan
14. Savea
15. MoorbyReserves:
16. Coles
17. Mafileo
18. Franks
19. Walker-Leawere
20. Gibson
21. Roigard
22. Garden-Bachop
23. Proctor -
Is Love still injured? Would love his impact off the bench rather than JGB.
-
The call has been put out to #FillTheHill at Leichardt Oval. There are showers all this week in Sydney, which will clear Friday afternoon and stay away into Saturday at this stage, so that is a good sign.
Apparently the grandstand is already sold out. Leichardt tops out at 20k so will be interesting to see how they go.
-
@Canes4life Is TJ injured?
-
@chimoaus going from these photos - https://www.gettyimages.co.nz/photos/hurricanes-rugby?assettype=image&family=editorial&phrase=hurricanes rugby&sort=newest
Looks like TJ is having a rest. Love is back training so that's a good sign but probably not quite ready to take the field, he may get some minutes for Wainui this week.
As you can see from the photos, the numbers on the jerseys (players in white) show who's starting where.
-
@Canes4life They look in good spirits which is great. Should be a cracker of a game this weekend.
-
Looks like Walden in the 23 jersey, not Proctor.

Weird they've scheduled two games in Sydney this weekend - and the Tahs are playing in the community league ground while MP and the Drua get the premier ground.

Tahs fans would much rather attend Leichhardt than Parra.
What they should have done is played both games at Leichhardt with maybe a 1st XV or club game in between? Either way the crowd for this one should be good.

That's just silly, Parra is an awesome ground to watch rugby at.
Agree they should have done a double header, seems very silly not to have done that (but at Parra rather than Leichardt) - but they probably would have changed the time rather than have a club game in between. I'll hang around to boo the Tahs and Welly but not if theres a club game in between I have to sit through.

It's not about the ground. It's about the location. Tahs fans simply aren't going to travel half an hour further west than Leichhardt unless it's a final or something. It's just a fact.

They're worried someone will mug them for their blazer and RMs.
-
There are a couple of games on before Tahs/Canes at the ground, including a First Division Subbies match between Drummoyne and Blue Mountains at 5:30PM. Think the other one is a Golden Oldies game of some sort at 3PM?

Perfect example was the 2014 grand final - attendance of 62k. A few miserable Cantabs in there, sure, but overwhelmingly Tahs fans. Best atmosphere at that stadium since 2000 Bledisloe.
Contrast that to the SFS in Game 1 of 2015 - 17k to see the Force. So Tahs fans won't even go see the Tahs when it is around the corner, really. Was a beautiful February day so probably down the beach.

Bring on IWL and give him a go at 6. Maybe

Oh yeah, I know that. It's still a good ground and unlike Olympic Stadium it isn't that difficult to get to if you don't live in the snobby suburbs.

Does anyone know when the new Allianz stadium will be ready? Last time I heard is that it's opening in September.

September 2 for NRL.
I think September 3 is Wallabies-Boks which should be there too.

Should be - was listed as TBC last time I checked. A few Project Managers will be shitting bricks.
Drove past the other day and it looks pretty fucking good from the outside.
-
@NTA well it's been pushed back enough times.

Yeah was hoping the June test would be there.

@Stargazer Walden’s wearing a blue jersey in those pics though. 🧐

I wasn't following it so was surprised at how quickly it has developed. Seems like yesterday it was a hole in the ground and they were fighting over who was supposed to remove the debris. Bloody Covid has screwed time.
It's the best ground for me - purely for the fact it's within walking distance (or quick tram distance) for me.

It's also because you're comparing it to Homebush, which is one of the worst grounds around. Shit viewing, miles away, terrible food, no atmosphere
-
@Canes4life Ah, missed that photo. You may be right. I looked at this photo, the player to the right of Ardie. Might be Roigard, although the number looks more like 22 or 23 than 21.

Long walk for me to Homebush too ... but I've mainly been discussing Parra Stadium in this thread, which is a great ground, and actually fairly easy to get to from the city.
In saying all that, I wouldn't mind going to a game in Liechardt, but would prefer a league game as that's what I know it from.

Haven't been to Parra yet but heard only great things (aside from it being in Parra... )
-
@Stargazer yeah that’s Roigard but doesn’t look like a 21. Mind you Walker-Leawere is wearing 26 so the jerseys might not be completely accurate.

Hold on a sec'
Isn't Ardie the undisputed best All Black Number 8?
What's Foster up to? -

Horton out, Vailanu in.
Cridge out, Sinclair promoted, Hanigan in.
Ruan Smith out, Paddy Ryan in... uh....
No Hooper. One thing I do like is we're not changing wholesale week to week.

Hope Christchurch is taking note. Just build the fucking thing already.

Referee: Reuben Keane
Assistant Ref 1: Graham Cooper
Assistant Ref 2: James Palmer
TMO: Oli Kellett -
@Daffy-Jaffy is that an all Aussie panel?
-
Hurricanes
Xavier Numia, Asafo Aumua, Tyrel Lomax, James Blackwell, Justin Sangster, Blake Gibson, Du'Plessis Kirifi, Ardie Savea (c), Jamie Booth, Aidan Morgan, Salesi Rayasi, Jordie Barrett, Bailyn Sullivan, Julian Savea, Josh Moorby
Reserves: Dane Coles, Tevita Mafielo, Owen Franks, Isaia Walker-Leawere, TK Howden, Cam Roigard, Jackson Garden-Bachop, Billy Proctor
-
@Duluth I'm surprised Laubsher isn't there and I don't get the whole Blake Gibson thing at 6. Would rather Howden start and have Gibson coming off the bench.
-
@Duluth Lomax has got to be the 2nd tallest guy in the starting pack
-
I take it Princep is injured?
-
@Machpants yeah, otherwise he would be starting.
