June - July Internationals 2022
-
The test schedule is up on the Ferns' home page. It includes dates, kick-off times, live broadcasting/livestreaming info (NZ only) and results of all major test matches.
This thread is for squad lists & general info and discussions.
As always, there will be separate match threads for the important matches. -
@Stargazer awesome. What's the asterisk next to some times? Not televised? Edit nope can't be that, SA games will be on sky
-
@Machpants Ah, I see my explanation for the asterisk only appears in the intro on the home page, not in the article itself. I'll add it.
The asterisk means that the local time is on the previous day (from a NZ perspective; NZ day, date and time are in the first three columns).

Media release:
Squad summary
Total Test caps: 905
Average Test caps: 26
Average age: 27
Uncapped players: 6 (Pone Fa'amausili, Nick Frost, Jed Holloway, Cadeyrn Neville, David Porecki, Suliasi Vunivalu)
Most capped: Michael Hooper (118 Tests)
Youngest member: Angus Bell, 21
Oldest member: Quade Cooper, 34
Breakdown: Brumbies 15, Queensland Reds 7, NSW Waratahs 6, Melbourne Rebels 4, Overseas clubs 3 -
Interestingly only one 6 (Leota), one 7 (hooper) plus three 8s. Five loosies in total, yet ABs will probably pick 7. One 12 (Kerivi), one fullback (banks). So there will have to be some positional shuffling
-
I can't believe that Angus Bell is only 21, no doubt will have a very long career in orange.
-
@Machpants Valetini or Holloway could play 6 as well

Sure I realise that, just not their default position in SR (as far as I know, I could be wrong!)

The first two international games were played this weekend and the results have been added:
A brief highlights clip from the Japan v Uruguay game was posted on Twitter by the Japanese RFU:
On YouTube, I could only find an unofficial, low-quality highlights clip, but it's longer and watchable if you watch it on a smallish screen. The match sheet with try scorers can be found here.
Unofficial highlights video of the England v Barbarians game:

Jordie Petaia can play 12, 13 and wing. They’ve also got James O’Connor who is a 10, 12 or fullback option.

Glad Chile finally gets on the road map for the big 8.

You'd think they would just start like this on auto-type by now.

@ARHS I actually quite liked it when the Māori All Blacks played them, and Brazil a few years ago, although it wasn't of much use for the MABs as a means of developing players. Unfortunately, Brazil doesn't get to play a single test match during the June/July test window.

And we all LOVE Brazil rugby

Found a livestream of the Barbarians game with Spanish commentary. The half time score was 14 - 0 to the Barbarians.
The second half has now started and I notice that they're playing in a very empty stadium.
-
Haha, there seem to be some communication issues with the Spanish refs.
-
Reading on Rugbypass that this is the last game for Tom Wood (who has kicked at least two of the conversions), Devin Toner and Joe Tekori.
-
And now my stream has died.
-
The full time score is Barbarians 26 - 7 Spain.
I understand there were quite a few debutants in the Spanish side and from what I've seen of the game, they didn't play badly, despite the result.
-
Highlights from the second Japan v Uruguay game:
-
-
I thought an interesting take on the ‘Tri Nations’ July games
-
-
I haven't been able to find the Japan v France game in Sky's tv guide, so I assume they won't show it live or not at all. I also haven't seen that it will be livestreamed, although it may be worthwile keeping an eye on the World Rugby YouTube channel.
Because of that, there doesn't seem to be much reason for a separate match thread
Line-up Japan: -
-
Is Kazuki Himeno injured?
-
@Bovidae Must be. He was named in the Japan WTG at the beginning of May, but hasn't played in the two tests against Uruguay either.
-
@Stargazer Vakatawa back and a deserved chance for Hastoy.
-
Italy beat Romania overnight in Bucharest. The full time score:
Romania 13 - 45 Italy
-
Result from yesterday:
Japan 23 - 42 France
-
-
-
On Monday morning (NZT time), Argentina XV beat Georgia 30 - 24 in Kutaisi, Georgia.
I think this result, as well as that of the Romania v Italy game (above), shows that Georgia and Romania aren't quite good enough to join the Six Nations. There still quite a bit weaker than Italy.
