@Stargazer Jordie will stay, Brett Cameron’s one of his best mates so doubt he will shift.

Cameron looks good with a second five he can hand off too as well, so you’d have to wonder if the Canes will consider a Cameron, Barrett, PUJ 10-12-13 axis. They can then use Moorby/Love at 15.

Edit: Laumape could be dark horse for a return as well on that basis

It's sounding unlikely Laumape will return but if he does it's only a bonus.

A starting backline of 9. Perenara 10. Cameron 11. Sullivan 12. Barrett 13. PUJ 14. Moorby 15. Love has a nice balance to it.

Reserve backs: 21. Roigard 22. Morgan 23. Rayasi

I feel if Jordie Barrett plays 12 you need Love at 15, his kicking game is superior to Moorby who can quite easily shift to the wing. I've got Sullivan on the left wing because he's too good to leave out of the starting side and would be a better option than Rayasi IMO.

Even if you lose PUJ to the Landers you could be ok as you can use Sullivan at 13 and Rayasi in the wing (assuming we don’t steal him)

It will be interesting whether Jordie will play at 12 at all for the Canes, next season, especially as he's unlikely to play there for the All Blacks. If he does, it won't do his chances of All Blacks starts at fullback any favours. He may well lose the black 15 jersey to Jordan, Dmac or BB.

@Stargazer If I were Jordie Barrett and looked at Will Jordan as my competition at 15 and David Havili at 12, I know which fight I'd pick.

@reprobate Yep, but he's not in control. The selectors are and they've made it clear they see him as a fullback.

He needs to find out where Razor sees his position....

@Nepia I will come to the defence of @Canes4life here. He has stopped fluffing Alex Fidow (and to a leser extent Xavier Numia) for about 18 months now. Whether that is because he no longer falls into the young Wellington players category or he has finally accepted and agreed with me that Mr. Fidow will never master the arts for propping to be effective at any level over Premier Reserve club level (Ories don't always start him at prop).

Where’s Fidow off to? I know he’s playing Harbour in NPC but is he off overseas after that? Still v.young and might round out his game with a stint in Europe for a few years.

He’s probably betting that Razor takes over at some point soon and we all know Robertson sees him as a 12 just as much as he sees him as a fullback.

    More on Laumape

I think the likelihood of him returning to the Canes is close to zero. He will make a lot more money elsewhere

On the NPC 2022 thread. Shame the way NZR treated him.

Ngani Laumape continues to train with the Turbos and while he would like to wear black again, and to do so would have to play for Manawatū, he will be joining Panasonic in Japan.

Wonder when we will all hear what Barrett is doing.

Hope so. Canes are not the team they were and losing Barrett would be a blow. I want 5 strong teams too so Canes and Highlanders need to keep their best players

Agreed we don't want SR weakened anymore.

Razor was saying even last year if he could sign any player outside the squad he has got it would be Jordie. And I have heard him say before that he likes Jordie at 12.

What would he then do with the incumbent AB 12? Move him to fullback? Oh, that's right he already has the AB 14 that he says should be at 15.

Although some player signings haven't been confirmed, sometimes instagram/FB posts can give us clues:

The re-signing of PU-J, Rakete-Stones and Iose, for example, hasn't been announced but they appear in this post (from 22 August 2022).

Man, Savea looks so old in that post. Time to move on I'd say.

@Stargazer You’d have to think they’d be staying based entirely on the fact that they weren’t included in the farewell post the likes of JGB and O’Reilly got.

On a side note I thought Rakete-Stones and a Iose had another year left.
