Reds vs Hurricanes

To kick off the first official Super Rugby match thread of the season there is a locking injury crisis within the Reds at the moment and they are going to have to play a loose forward at lock to start the season.
This, and the fact it’s going to be raining on Saturday makes me think that it might be better for the Canes to start a sizeable pack to really dominate in up front.

By my calculations those players that aren't available for the opening round / the Aus trip are: TJ Perenara, Brett Cameron, Ruben Love, Peter Umaga-Jensen, Tyler Laubscher, Reed Prinsep, Bailyn Sullivan, Jacob Devery, Daniel Sinkinson and Justin Sangster.
Morgan will start at 10, Moorby will start at 15, and Godfrey will be first five/ fullback reserve.

Tyler is have no luck with injuries. 10 out with injuries and some possible starters is not a good way to begin (typical though in recent years). Hopefully most are short term

Morgan played better for the Canes at the back end of last year than he did for the Lions in NPC. Hope he can find that form from last year because it will be needed in the early rounds.

Ok. Pleased to see iwl starting. And numia too. Unsure about franks though. Blackwell is a given now so what to say. I would have had another lock too not both kirifi and iose
Can't wait to see lakai at 7 though. Future superstar. FAB Lakai.
Overall I like the side. Not the strongest NZ side though.. but I can at least be hopeful for a good start

I think Mafileo, Aumua and Lomax are our strongest front row so I'm sure they'll provide plenty of impact off the bench.

I think half of them should be available after the Aus trip, so round 3.
I feel like we have the depth to cope.
I heard somewhere that Higgins had clean up surgery on his shoulder so is on limited minutes to kick off the season. Maybe that's why he hasn't featured in the Canes 23 for this week.

I'm hoping he has a season like Moorby did for us last year when he gets a chance. Looks to be a solid winger with all the skills in the book so hopefully he gets a crack at some point.

@Canes4life I liking the Canes team named for Saturday, I catually quite like the idea of Lakai runnning at 7. A little worried about 6-2 split, as although I really liked Godfrey's game on Firday, he could be on pretty early. Still bring it on , and I love seeing these young fellas getting a shot!
