Is it going to come down to a straight choice between SS and Zarn for the WC? Who has the highest ceiling?

    I think Zarn

I think for the 2023 RWC, Stevenson is ahead of Z Sullivan, if only because Zarn is still a bit of a rookie. For the next RWC cycle, I think Zarn will have the advantage.

It will take some injuries for either of them to be part of this year's RWC squad though.

Not just the ceiling but the positional competition?
    SS a 15 and wing, ZS a 15 and backup 10?

Foster doesn't give a fuck about ceiling it's all about the now for him. It'll be whomever does the best at the pointy end of the season imo

That's the thing, as you say Stevenson and Sullivan don't cover the same positions. Zarn would be more in competition with BB and DMac in a squad.

Players like him will get their opportunity in the AB XV games, but he also needs to show this form in the NZ derbies (if MacDonald selects him).

I think we all should just cool things a bit , Zarn has had a good game as replacement, and he's in the ABs?? And I do think he alright, but f*** me we need to see a season before we get carried away. I have thought he's had a few good games over the years, but still want to see him string a few togather. We not Australia whare a player has a 5 minute burst and then is the saviour of the country!!😲

I want to see Zarn at 10, but given his lack of experience at 10, at either Super or NPC level, I would hate to see him used in the ABs as a back up 10. It's 15 or nothing for now.

He's been playing well for a couple of years. Unfortunately behind BB and Perofeta for 15, and has struggled with injuries. So, consistent play and continuing to improve has been good to watch; it's not just one part game.

I've been consistent. I've wanted him in the ABs as a 15 for a couple of years

@Bovidae the thing is I'd much rather have Zarn at 15 than BB. And maybe even 10!

It's quite ironic that a couple years ago on the Breakdown, all the Super coaches were asked to pick a name of a player to look out for in preparation for the season ahead. The player Leon identified funnily enough was Zarn Sullivan so I really don't know why he hasn't had more game time up until now, because he is quality.

He mentioned in the after match interview that he'd been told the accuracy of his kicking from hand had dropped. So he's been working on that. Sounded like he got a small kick up the arse at the start of the season

Lol lol lol the irony, if Zarn's kicking was considered inaccurate and that was the reason for his non-selection, would it be fair to suggest that Beauden should also not have been involved in the matchday 23?

    @Canes4life

Depends what the situation was. If a young player is taking it easy and training and his standards drop it's not the same as an experienced player out of form. Who cares, it's all good now. They are both in form and they are both certainties in the top xv

BBs in form? Could have fooled me.

He's had some good moments but is far of what he is capable of IMO. Is very hestitant and shy of contact for starters. Has been dropping back then kicking possession away before getting close to the gain line and leaving his forwards in no mans land.
Some signs that he is coming right but 'in form' seems a stretch.

this just isn't true. he hit quite a few rucks on the weekend to keep ball. Just because he's not trucking it up in to traffic doesn't mean he's playing bruise free footy.

I thought he played alright again on Saturday, but i always say that when the Blues are smoking an overmatched opponent. There were holes everywhere which is where he is at his best. Played a decent FB game. Still shits me as a 10 for the reasons i said repeatedly earlier in the thread

The only contact I saw him take offensively was when some one offloaded him a pass close to the line and he couldn't do anything but truck it.
