That halves combination fills me with no confidence at all.
Would have liked to see Lakai and Higgins get a trot instead of Savea and Barrett but I guess it's a chance for them to play themselves into some sort of form.
Savea and Barrett will need to be rested in one of those bigger games before the playoffs now though.
Nice to see Godfrey get another opportunity, would have preferred it be at 10 instead.

@Canes4life and Lomax also needs resting. Strange decision to play all three ABs this game.
-
Joe Royal on the bench for MP. Turning 38 years old this month. Ponsonby club Legend.

I can see all of them being rested next week which is a shame. I was looking forward to having another crack at the Chiefs,
Hopefully in their absence we get to see the likes of Lakai and Higgins again in some capacity.

Think the Blues demonstrated perfectly why you can't afford to take your foot off the pedal when returning from Fiji. Is it then a mistake to rest the most consistent and mercurial player in Roigard for this match? Booth is such a huge step down in quality.

What do you mean by mercurial if it does not mean the opposite of consistent? You simply mean unpredictable to the opposition?

Roigard has been the opposite of mercurial. He's consistently been the Canes best this year, but I do agree that Booth is a major step down.
Two players the Canes have really missed this year have been Love (starting) and Perenara (providing hustle from the bench). Hopefully they get back soon because they are simply running out of time.

Strategy here is simply to get a fit team to play the quarters. Any idea of a home game is from burning out the last 3 weeks then having another three hard weeks.
The second batch of hard games is the one you need to focus on. The first batch might get you a home quarterfinal but at what cost?
Brumbies have a reasonably easy run to the finals and the Chiefs might even choose to keep some powder dry in their matchup.
Decreasing the overall chance of winning the comp to try and get a bit of ticket sales cash might annoy the beancounters but is the right thing to do for the team chances -
@Crucial You are right. But I've now given up on this year. Losing Cameron and with limited coaches (including our head coach) will be too much to overcome. But if the team can find a good (great would be maybe too much to ask for) head coach (I have doubts on some assistant coaches too) and sort out the injury issue that started about when Holland took over. The team could do well (even very well) in the future with the players currently available,
I'm disappointed that the new training center hasn't helped. This needs to be addressed. There are too many injuries year after year since Holland took over. Maybe he thrashing players too hard at training. Wellington won last year in large part due to few injuries. So find out what they did and copy it (or recruit their staff). Likewise if my memory is ok 2016 was a good year for the Canes regarding injuries too
2 more wins this year will be a good result based on the opposition. Maybe rest the ABs next week and try to win them all from then on. Starting with the Blues. I expect a win then 4 losses but always hope for more

Just had a look at this
My view is a new head coach needs to look at these staff. Because the results (player wellbeing and performance) seems very poor.
HIGH PERFORMANCE, WELLBEING & OPERATIONSSort out the large number of injuries year after year after year and the Canes would be a very different beast. To do this chnages are needed with a new head coach but also the team supporting player strength and conditioning. I guess these employees report to the head coach.
Compared to Wellington. I will be interested in the lion's injuries again this year
The high performance team produced the goods last year. Whereas 2021 wasn't good.

@Canes4life. Perenara would likely start knowing Holland . The biggest loss though is Cameron. And our hookers if they don't return soon. The 2 starting this week are a big step down.

@nostrildamus ha I like that! But yes I meant unpredictable for the opposition and conjures something from nothing, as in some of those tries he has scored both long range and from the base of the scrum have been freakish.
