@Bovidae I was surprised he was that inactive in defence.

@sparky Great to see how busy Finau was (17), only beaten in the tackle count by Cane (19). Taukeiaho was busy too eh (15).

Tackling seemed a lot easier in second half. Wobblies were rampaging in first 30.

McLeod was the only sub that missed tackles. No one made more than 4 either.

Another interesting stat is Smith's 51 passes, versing Christie's 46.

Savea getting a turnover from an offside position is unhelpful.

Our ruck security was not helped by bad decisions on the pick n go. No support.

    And the scrum disintegrating....

Well, I wondered if Eddie had passed on some old tricks at scrum time. Looked like Bell had slightly pulled back rather than taking weight causing Nepo to overextend. He clearly thought the penalty ought to have gone other way. And Williams seemed amused by way ref had wool pulled over his eyes at first scrum.
Your finishing TH seems to be an aspiring pilot.

Bell didn't take the weight. Should have been penalized. I suspect some shenanigans on T. William's side as well. That means good scrumming on the convicts' side though. It will be worse when the ABs are against the wily NH bastards. Hence Moody has got to be on the plane for France.

@Old-Samurai-Jack We will have to prepare and be alive to scrum shenanigans though as I dont trust those French farkers at all.

33% possession in the first half not going to give the Ranga as many passing opportunities

@ACT-Crusader Especially if others are passing from the breakdown. I just thought it was interesting how in half the time, Smith was able to go well past the amount of passes.

The possession thing can be flipped over to defence, which Christie gets praise for - yet he was only tackling at half the rate Smith was 😉

@sparky Good call although the pedant in me wants to point out it was 1994 not 93.

Watching the first 20 minutes again. Scrum penalty against Williams was bullshit (Australia pulling back), and Canes missed tackle at 6min was a shocker.

McKenzie gets a zero for effort on that missed tackle that cost Hoopers try.

All three frontrowers missed tackles on Bell at about 9:20 in. Remarkably poor.

At 12:30, that knock down by the Austrlian looked to be at least a penalty. There was a 3 on one overlap.

@Tim Petaia? I thought that on first viewing, but seems the ref thought it was a genuine attempt.

@Bones He had to really stretch/dive to attempt it, and never had the ability to get a hand in a realistic position to catch it.

The scrum penalty at 17:00 was absolute bullshit, Bell folded passively. Awful refereeing. No English refs please.

If the ref can't spot that, is it then poor from the opposite prop though? Surely a prop renowned for his work at scrum time shouldn't have his oppo get one over him that easy.

@Bones Bizarrely, it was called by the linesman, and was fucking blatant!

Nothing Laulala can do when his opposite just pulls out of contact.

Opening 20: Forwards except for Finau, Whitelock, and Savea were awful. Backline awful. The defensive combination of McKenzie, Lienert-Brown, and Ennor is diabolical. Passive and weak.
