    this is fucking ridiculous

the top side played week 1
The top side played last weekend.

The top side played 3 games straight to start the season. It is not like they are meeting in teh carpark

Of our starting front row next week, two are starting, the other is suspended (so this might be our starting front row next week)
Of our starting locks, one has carried a big minute burden, and thus is off the bench, the other is returning from a long injury so needs to be managed
Of our starting loose forwards, two are starting, the other has played every minute so far and needs a rest
Our starting 9 is getting a well deserved rest, and the boom youngster everyone wants to play more is starting
    Our starting 10 is playing
    Our starting 12 is playing
Our starting centre is getting a rest after playing most games this year. The guy who will be off the bench next week is starting
Our starting 14 is playing, the starting 11 gets rotated but wings are plug and play
Our starting 15 is on the bench, with the guy who will play off the bench starting.

16 guys playing will be in the 23 next week. 12 of the starting 15. It's not like we have wheeled out the dirt trackers here

    Furlong

Depends on the metres. 201.168 and he's spent.
How to get him to run over 201 metres in a game? I'm just the ideas guy.

@mariner4life Bnag on Mariner, seems pretty sensible, and I can't see how there are many selections that are out there.

"Then it all fell apart to an England side who “monstered” New Zealand, to borrow Italy coach Kieran Crowley’s description of the weekend’s 96-17 shellacking."
    I don't recall Ireland winning 96-17.

I expect the coaches would have mapped out best case scenario for playing minutes for the majority of the squad from the end of super rugby through to at least the 1/4, obviously injury and suspensions threw spanners in the works, just as the SA game and Italy game messed things up a bit for different reasons, but from my couch it just feels several players will be under done.

I hope I'm wrong and Fozzie has timed his teams run to this RWC perfectly, I'll happily have him walk out the door with a big 🖕

The A side by the QF won't have played more than 2 tests consecutively in more than a month.

Don’t worry the A side will get two consecutive matches when they play the QF and semi…

@antipodean not quite, i think a good coach would have had more or less a performing first string a long time ago so that he could keep them sharpe whilst developing the "reserves", as it is the first string has misfired so much over the last few years he's had to keep twerking that and playing people like BB he is hoping will just "come right"

We are where we are and Foster and the coaching team are managing things and selecting players with a focus on the next 2-4 games.

I really don't think there's any point in choosing a side for Uruguay on the basis of what Foster should or shouldn't have done 2 or 3 years ago

not sure thats what i was suggesting, all i was saying is he is at least partially responsible in the drop off from first to second string IMO not appearing to have done much to actually make anyone any better

As ive said, this is pretty much the team i would have picked because i think we're past the point of being able to build a battle hardened 23 that can shrug off niggles and keep going, we're not the 2015 Highlanders where they ran out onto the final after flying to Dunedin > SA > Dunedin > Sydney > Wellington in the preceding weeks and ran out looking like mummies covered in so much tape, i dont think we have Richie type energy playing with a broken foot

so for me i don't think one more run out of the top team against uruguay would wold provide benefit outweighing the the chance of injury or cards

Yeah nah. How many of those tests have they played collectively as a unit in succession? Then you wonder why Fosters record is so poor.

Will Uruguay finally wear their main colours in this game? I am assuming they lost every coin toss for the clash of jerseys but that won't be an issue with black.

you "anything Foster does sucks" blokes need to get your stories straight

Either he played his top team too often because he needed wins, and didn't develop anyone else because of it

Or he hasn't played his top team enough and fucked up their cohesion

The thing that gets lost in all of this is, Super Rugby, literally the only option available to get guys on the field, ended 15 weeks ago. Basically a third of the year.
Regardless of the name of the AB coach, he is presented with a dilemma. Play the top side enough to get everyone gelled, but also give everyone in the squad a run to ensure they don't go stagnant after having most of the year not playing rugby.

It is one of the biggest challenges the AB coach faces. The complete lack of any other game time alternatives for the ABs July - November season. The Northern sides have their guys playing club, then take them out for short international windows, then send them back to club land. Our guys spend 5 months in AB camp.
