we're all sports fans here, it's why we spend so much time and energy on here chucking shit at each other. Part of being a sports fan is watching your team win a final.

The All Blacks losing yesterday, and the Lions losing a nailbiter in the AFL a month ago has me thinking, when was the last time i watched a team i support win a Championship final?

Bay of Plenty won the 2nd Div in 2019, but i didn't watch it as it was like 4.30 on a friday arvo, and i was coaching kids rugby.
The Taipans and the Warriors have never won a title.
The Chiefs last won in 2013
The Lions last won in 2003
In US sports, the Broncos won the Superbowl in 2015 (game was actually 2016), the Spurs won the NBA in 2014.

I'm in a bit of a drought actually. And looking at that roster of teams, if the ABs can't win world cups, i am a bit fucked.

The AB's are the only team i support that could be considered one of the Favourites, just on the weekend in maybe 12 hours i had kiwis, back caps, wimbledon and the AB's loose

    ....it sucks

    Black Caps Inaugural Test Championship
Fulham won the Championship in 2022 does that count?
Otherwise in my coughcough years it's been the AB's and a couple of Team NZ dinghy races
I've been courtside to see a couple of Breakers grand final wins but I wasn't really invested.

I was in attendance at New Playmouth about 10 days ago to see the Naki win NPC!!
Have been at a cvouple of club finals where my teams have won to, twice were teams I managed and one a I managed, and coached forwards!
Seen a few on tv where my team has won, but don't really count them.

Waratahs 2014 is pretty much the only "live" experience where I've seen my team win something big.

    Most recent only:

    Lions 2022 (Shield & NPC)
    Canes 2016
ABs 2015 (Obviously we've won every other trophy regularly)
    BCs WTC final 2021
Thunder (never - Adams era only)

Those are the only teams I'm really heavily invested in watching / supporting though.

Hopefully we can snag an ODI WC in my lifetime. T20 would be nice although it's my least favourite form of cricket.

Fun fact, every time the Crusaders have won Super Rugby in a world cup year, the All Blacks don't win the RWC. Time to stop winning please 😀

@mariner4life Surely your Cowboys are a decent chance of winning again sometime?

I'm in the same boat with all my teams (less options than you as I don't care about Aussie and American only sports) but beating Wellington to win the shield and beating BoP to deny them a final were like grand finals for me. 😉

All Blacks - 87, 11, 15. But I also rate the 96 Bok series, 93 and 05 Lions series, 03 Bledisloe series as massive wins.

Crusaders and Canterbury - read the wiki page 😎

NZ/AKL Warriors - so close yet so far! 2011 loss probably hurt more than 02. 02 great to be there and all that but never felt we would win it. 2011 what a team we had.

NZ Breakers - 3 peat from 11-13 and then again in 15. Losing in 2016 and last season were hard to stomach.

SA Spurs - 99, then the others in the 2000’s. Had to wait 10 years for the Admiral to get a chip.

St Kilda - when you look up heartbreak in the dictionary…. Nothing. Zero. Zilch

Philly Eagles - 2017 loooong time coming. Last year arggghhhhh, hurt more than 04.
