Talk about a sensitive character if Savea moves because his brother was too shit to get a contract. The Hurricanes gave Julian a reprieve when he performed poorly for Toulon, the Savea’s should be thankful to the Canes for extending his super career when there were question marks about his performance back then. He probably played three years more than he should have for the Canes. Enough was enough but obviously Ardie can’t handle that. It’s business pal.

Based on that logic Reiko Ioane and the Barretts will be off quicksmart too !

This was a quote from Avan Lee a month ago - But Lee confirmed 30-year-old Savea will be back with the Hurricanes in 2025, amid reports one of the team’s iconic players was mulling over another season in Japan. “Ardie is back next year and he will just add to that (loose forward) group, which is exciting,” Lee told the Post.

Lee will have egg on his face if the best player in the world departs. That would be the second time he’s lost a World Player of the Year. He may aswell follow Ardie out the door in my view.

To be honest, what I've heard is that he wants to preserve his body for the next world cup, and at the Blues he'll get another sabbatical, and plenty of rest weeks, and be able to come off the bench in a lot of games. He also wants to take his brand to the next level, and will have more freedom to take promotional opportunities and apparel contracts there.

This is why we need transfer fees in rugby. Imagine how much the Blues would owe the Hurricanes for going after Beaudy and now Savea (potentially).

If what you’re saying is true then fair play to him but I never want to see the guy in a Canes jersey again if he moves for those reasons, what a cop out. He can preserve his body at the Canes quite easily with all the loose forward talent we have, and we have better facilities than the Blues now so when I come to think of it that doesn’t make much sense. On his brand, surely if he needs to he can take the odd trip up to Auckland, seems like an odd reason to join a rival, but hey I’ve seen stranger things come to fruition.

I can’t see him moving tbh. Will be interesting to know where all these rumours are coming from. Nothing in the media at all.

I'm sorry but no way Ardie goes to the Blues. Can't see it.

I think it's more about contracts he can take, and promotional time available, rather than being in Auckland.

    Transfer fees? In super rugby?
    For what?
What money are the Canes forking out?

In a roundabout way though I sort of agree. If the NZRU pay tour salary no matter what why would you live in Dunedin or Christchurch?

Give the teams their own money and stay out of it. Let the Highlanders chuck a heap of money at Ardie to try and turn his head.

Or everyone ends up in Auckland

Because you're shit. And there is no way for you to stop, because you can't even buy players. And living in Dunedin is not going to get a guy like Ardie to move despite a two-way fit.
You're fucked because you can't get players and Dunedin sucks

That’s a compliment to Wellington in a roundabout way.

I’ll take that. Nicest thing you’ve ever written on here.

    I looooved living in Wellington

Now that I am old and have kids, I am not sure the fun would counteract the weather

You still have good pubs though

The weather thing is a bit of a myth. Wellington is terrific.

Well, aside from the Hutt it is.

    The best thing about Wellington
is living in the Hutt, and having slew of golf courses within a 20 minute drive. The downside is the weather is generally so shit you can barely get out on the course.

This is pretty much the fakest news I’ve ever read on this site which is quite a statement to make all things considered.

Shandon - due to extreme downpours this week the course has been closed.
