@Darren said in Crusaders vs Hurricanes:

Both teams have decent forward packs.
But the Canes back line is very cobbled together. Could actually be pretty dangerous if they fire, but some inexperience in key positions... As long as Roigard takes control and stays on the field it is going to be very interesting.

It's more the bench for me. Having Enari and Hohepa on the bench is simply meh compared to what we had last year.

Not having our four most important players aside from Roigard in Aumua, Lomax, Proctor and Love is going to hurt.

Hurricanes Hunters team to play the curtain raiser. No Riley Higgins which suggests he’s got a minor niggle as well. Thank goodness.

It would be great if this type of match happened at all NZ derbies. Travel costs wouldn't be cheap though.

The Crusaders had to get dispensation to select Letiu as he is only 19. I think you would need an injury crisis in that position to be successful. The same happened with Tuputupu in 2022.

You think it would get mentioned if he had a minor niggle. I hope so too, It's got me beat why he not on bench at least , I do know there were rumours of perhaps an attitude problem a couple of years back, and I hope this is not got anything to do with him missing out.

I've had confirmation that him and Proctor sustained minor niggles this week in training and the Canes don't want to risk them for this match. If it was a final they would have been available but best to keep them on ice at this stage of the season instead of making any injuries worse. Both of them are expected to be available next week against the Drua.

That sounds good, a relief in fact. We want both those 2 operating as good as they can for us to have a chance of finals!

There was some footage on social media that showed Higgins and Aumua running fine as part of the non playing team during training so they can't be too bad.

Good to back at the start of a season .
Was hopeful Sky might have looked to improve pregame show/analysis but looks to be same old same old

I'm neutral in this game ..... Saders seem to start poorly and lost to the landers pre-season .. so maybe the Canes will win ....

Curious to see how long Fern favourite Blackadder lasts

@Canes4life I think that is a little harsh. Definitely seems to be some extra cameras at least. The analysis though, remains a below-par - but find me a pre-match coverage in any sport that doesn't largely consist of meathead ex-pros analysing with low effort.

Sky Sport are just a tick box exercise. Instead of getting the best people for the job we are left with this lot who spend half of their time blowing smoke up each others arses. It’s cringe as. The analysis is below par. It used to be so much better but it seems to get worse every year.

If they want to bring back the crowds and improve fan engagement they need to do better.

JK was the only one who wasn’t afraid to say what he really thought but now he’s gone.

What a difference it makes with an Oz ref actually reffing the crusaders.

210 seconds into the new season and Scotty gets his first card.
