@Tim said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:

Can't recall anything about Lam signing with Wellington.

He signed with Wellington at the same time as the Hurricanes

I wouldn't pick him, but I expect Tyrone Elkington-MacDonald will be in the squad.

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, but Jordan Taufua has signed for the Ta$man Mako$ for the ITM cup. He played for them back in 2012,so not totally new to their environment.

@Kiwidom Yes, that was posted here when he signed in February. Good signing for Ta$man.

@Tim said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:

@KiwiMurph Yep, scored all their points, I think. Hopefully he's already had surgery and has recovered. Sounds unlikely though.

Going by an article from last year, it looks like Harry Plummer has already had the surgery and is back playing - which hopefully puts him in contention for this year's Auckland squad (even if its just to get a taste).

***Harry Plummer has dealt with more than his fair share of adversity in his short rugby career, so a slightly delayed April start to the 2017 season is a minor inconvenience for this talented No 10.

His exams were done, but his arm was in a brace as he rehabs from a shoulder operation last month, done a few days after the trans- Ta$man schools international.***

@Bovidae size wise you'd think he was the schoolboy of the two. In fact game-wise too.

Googled how Kerr went in the UK. So, he was a mixture of shite, injured and unavailable.

He's been with Hertford for the last year. Here's what the DOR said when he signed with them:

"He came over from Auckland hoping to play for Saracens in 2014/15 and was going to be second behind [Owen] Farrell thinking [Charlie] Hodgson might take it easy, but obviously he didn't"

"He got loaned out to Bedford, suffered concussion and lost his love for the professional side of the game.

"Michael Owen [head of rugby at Haileybury] introduced him to me. He wanted to get into teaching and he's going to do that at Mill Hill short term and be looking to Haileybury or Heath Mount, schools in the local area, long term.

"Because of his teaching commitments he will be joining us late in October

But then he didn't play for them until January because of 'teaching commitments' and that was one game from the bench.

CM have basically signed a player who is coming out of semi retirement

It's like CM have said to Baden Kerr "bugger off overseas and try to get worse than Piers Francis, or we won't sign ya"

So Kieran Read has re-signed with the NZR through 2019, but interestingly, has signed with Counties for Mitre 10 Cup.

Why do provincial teams sign these guys? Do they cost them anything? They'll never play a minute for them.

I'm also unsure if the Reads are going to live in the Counties region. Surely with the amount of time spent with the Crusaders they'll remain living Christchurch.

I guess its a promotional thing, I guess he'll be available to do sponsor stuff for Counties sponsors, despite probably not pulling on a counties jersey.
