Harvey Weinstein

@salacious-crumb who gives a flying fuck what the rebel colonies think?
Dench wasn't on any Bond posters I can find so I think that says more about the character "M" than her standing but it's irrelevant in terms of Weinstein's contemptible actions
-
OKay, you win. She was a big star and household name in America when Goldeneye hit screens. (If you say so.)
(I can't help but laugh at myself for even having this argument ffs.)

Drudgereport this minute. Fashion designer Donna Karan slut-shames & blames the women seducin' Harv, and there's that pic again with the filthy pervert's arm around Lorde. Ouch.

I don't for a second think he'd mash on Barack' baby girl either, unless he was a complete sociopath (not willing to rule out the possibility, power does strange things to sociopaths). I'm more alarmed that somebhody didn't step forward and tell Barack, hey, bro, this dude that raises you money and keeps coming to the White House, he's a real pervert the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, possible Jimmy Savile stuff... you know, politically and socially, you might want to put a barge-pole between your office and a "known" sex deviant, and that should be a pair of barge-poles between the sleazebag and your daughter, irrespective how many awards he wins and dollars he bundles for the Dems. Y'know, common sense.
I have no idea how much people knew about this creep's sexual habits. He hasn't plumbed the Jimmy Saville depths yet but there will be plenty of opportunity for allegatioms of underage sex to emerge. But these situations exist in many environments where there is a massive imbalance in power. Law firms, the clergy, politics, show business, the AFL just to name a few. All of these places allow those at the top huge opportunities to take advantage of people with little apparently discernable consequences

FYI-
Rumours were circulating early last week that Weinstein was going to be hit by pieces in the New York Times -and- The New Yorker magazine. NYT dropped their scoop on Thursday; The New Yorker piece landed today - and the women go on record accusing him of rape. They provide an audio tape of Weinstein admitting to assault in a NYPD sting operation, presented for the first time.
(Obamas and Clintons still deathly silent . . . )

@rancid-schnitzel Thanks for the apology but not necessary. I didn't take it that you were calling me out.

@salacious-crumb It's not all about the democrats you know.

Where did he say it was?

What I find weird is the Ashley Judd thing. She's heavily involved in the entire "Trump is a sex fiend" movement and has been very vocal about his alleged sexual harassments. Yet she says nothing about Weinstein until she basically has to. That's 20 years after the fact and she even kept on making movies with the guy. How can she slander the shit out of Trump while being mute about the guy who actually did to her what she accuses Trump of? Perhaps she finally realised her career is over?
-
@rancid-schnitzel I don't think it's that weird. There's a world of difference in twenty years for someone to realise that an issue didn't just happen to them, but is a pattern of behaviour.

Following up from my earlier supposition (trans. "misogynistic" fantasy), Gretchen Mol says no way, asshole! Schooled me.
Hollywood Reporter: Gretchen Mol Breaks Silence on Harvey Weinstein and Misogynistic Rumors (Guest Column)
[...]
For 10 years or so, I’ve been aware of rumors that I had some kind of transactional relationship with Harvey Weinstein. They seemed to start on a gossip website that made money by peddling ‘blind’ items. A few facts had been taken from my Wikipedia page, were combined with stories about a movie mogul who was known for harassing women, quotes from “reliable sources” were added and a malicious, viral rumor was born.
Over the years, it was gleefully embroidered, becoming increasingly bizarre and baroque — but the salacious, slut-shaming and misogynist message to the fable remained the same: In Hollywood, a young woman must build her career by humiliating herself and sleeping with powerful men.
[...]
People will believe what they want to believe, but I now feel compelled to answer publicly:
No. I did not exchange sexual favors with Harvey Weinstein, or anyone, for advancement in my career. I was never paid any settlement. The truth is that I have never been alone in a room with Harvey Weinstein. The extent of my interactions with him has been a handful of polite hellos at various premieres and award shows. This is in no way a defense of this person, it is merely a statement of fact.
[...]
(I'd like to apologise for any prior inferences and aspertions I might have earlier cast upon Ms. Mol's character and retract unreservedly.)

Considering his antics were the "worst kept secret in Hollywood" I find that highly unlikely.

So it is ok for her to keep silent about a sexual.assault.... until there is more than one....ah ok.

Yes, it's her decision about how she treats an incident where someone asks her to give him a massage or watch him shower.

From today's New York Times update:
[...]
The 24-year-old was wary, but Mr. Weinstein was friendly, professional and supportive, she said, offering her a screen test at Miramax, inviting her to lunch and dinner to talk about films and even giving her and her boyfriend tickets to see “The Producers” on Broadway.
Then his assistant invited her to a meal with Mr. Weinstein at a Manhattan hotel. Ms. Dunning headed to the restaurant, where she was told that Mr. Weinstein’s earlier meeting was running late, so she should head up to his suite.
There was no meeting. Mr. Weinstein was in a bathrobe, behind a coffee table covered with papers.
He told her they were contracts for his next three films, according to Ms. Dunning. But she could only sign them on a condition: She would have to have three-way sex with him.
Ms. Dunning said that she laughed, assuming he was joking, and that Mr. Weinstein grew angry.
“You’ll never make it in this business,” she said he told her. “This is how the business works.”

Well that is a straw man. Who ever claimed any different?

Poor Harvey, the pile-on is starting to make me feel some sympathy for the guy.
Just announced at People, his wife (fashion designer) Georgina Chapman is leaving him, filing for divorce.
Unmentioned in the People scoop is that there's been rumours for years she tolerated his abusive behaviour with other females as a quid-pro-quo because he made all the Hollywood starlets wear Georgina Chapman gowns on the red carpets at Oscars, Golden Globes, Cannes, and film premieres. Who could ever have imagined she married the guy for influence and power? They look like a perfect couple.

What strawman would that be? Whatever else were you suggesting here?
