The Meg - It's a shark movie that's not good and I kept wanting to tell it to shut up but it has some silly moments that are funny and Jason Statham is a good action hero. Also the kid actors in it are cute, Ruby Rose is hot for a lesbian and Rainn Wilson can't really act. 4/10

Thought it was a movie about Justin Marshall's hair so have ignored it.

Saw Mission Impossible: Fallout last night. This was a brilliant followup to MI: Rogue Nation. The film had a clever ending which arrived after a pulsating two hours of action. There were nods to the past, like the old school appearance of the self destructing player, and the obligatory rubber masks, a couple of high octane chases, and some good value punch ups. The finale was real white knuckle stuff and showcased a beautiful part of NZ. 5 apostles out of 5 small pox outbreaks

If you want a creepy atmospheric thriller then Fassbender is your man. That dude is seriously creepy.
And in this he's the good guy. Your typical morose damaged good guy as played by Fassbender.
Anyway, serial killer movie set in Norway.
It's not a bad premise, and the set up is okay, but the execution is fucking poor, and i picked the bad guy/twist very early on.

Pacing is so difficult to get correct when it comes to suspense movies. Too fast and you can't get the mood established. Too slow and people fall asleep before the credits, or once they've identified the obvious twist.

I think I gave up on that quite early on.
I'd read the book a while ago - which I think might have not helped... as I was trying to figure out who each character was, earlier than I was probably supposed to... rather than letting the film reveal things as it wanted.
I seem to recall the version I, ah, purchased - had the sound slightly out-of-sync - and getting worse... which certainly didn't help.
Also distracted by the fact it was a really weird book in the series to start with also, if they were considering a possible franchise. -

Yeah, I was going to summarise with "It was just shit", but I think "just fucken [sic] boring]" is more accurate.

Inspired by a chat on the other thread with old mate @Virgil I decided to watch The Running Man before the Rugby.
It is sooooooooooooooooooo 80s ( yet hilariously is set last year ) and Arnie is wooden even for him 'Hey Killian, there is sub zero....now plain zero' and the vision of the future is laughable in lots of ways but you know what? It works and it rocks. Fucken good entertainment, great supporting roles ( literally everyone is Oscar worthy compared to the Governator ) and a satisfying finish.

On Maori TV after the Rugby so managed to catch most of it. De Niro and Shazza Stone were just brilliant in their performances but I found Joe Pesci pretty laughable as the 'tough' guy. Also the movie goes on for fucken ever and not a great deal actually happens if that makes sense.

Dammit, now I have to find it somewhere online to watch! Really hope they do a proper version of the book in the future, my favourite Stephen King book (along with The Stand and The Long Walk).
