Sorry to hear that @Baron-Silas-Greenback ,
You've been part of the furniture here since even my lurking days in the early 2000's. I might have celebrated this announcement a few years back thinking it was a good thing that someone who viewed the world through a lens I disagreed with just disappeared, no doubt some will now. But like the 10th man principle, sometimes that sole opposing voice that you hate so much might just be trying to stop you from running headfirst into a brick wall. You were harsh…often too harsh, you didn't suffer fools, but your opinions were always your own and not just regurgitating a headline read the morning before or jumping on a popular bandwagon because everyone else was.
I think you also followed sport at some point, Cricket was it? Rugby too?
All the best for your future life as a tsf lurker trying your darndest not to correct a poster so wrong its scarcely comprehensible.

Hi all. Got here as soon as I could.
If I may wax lyrical for a moment: a post that summarises the online persona in keeping the verbosity proportionate to the revisionism; meeting expectation in the style expected in just under 500 words. Backhanded compliments ( ?)for the angry peasants, and praise for his fellow lords of the realm as he accepts banishment rather than living in the muck, and turns on his heel. Exit stage right.
Of course, the truth is always somewhere between the barking mad edges, or what one perceives to be the barking mad edges.
In a society increasingly polarised over the last 2 decades (mostly by its own navel/echo chamber), Baron's claim to fame is that his persona here was polarised before it was cool. And for a long time thereafter.
It will certainly change the face of the Fern, in that particular sub-fora will never be the same. For different reasons.
Speaking of which: I'd like my posting privileges returned in the Politics Forum, if anyone has a minute.

I just added you back
When did you lose permission? Why?
A few months back. Suspect it was just after I let rip at someone in the politics forum. Trying to remember exactly who...

This might seem nuts to some, or many even, but how do people keep up with those they disagree with on occasion? I can barely retain who supports which team, which players etc. Yes I can get as fucked off as the next guy in a debate I'm passionate about but why on earth would anyone take it so far - given the ability - as to delete posts which disagreed with theirs, if that's the gist above?
Anyway, I've probably had a few disagreements over the years with BSG, but do I recall anything particular? Nope. Could I label his posting style in any way? Not a hope. Maybe this is attributable to being a bit off and on so I'm not as immersed as I once was (for many years), but Jesus H Christ, it's just a fucken forum (albeit a great one!)
At the end of the day, many of us can take this stuff far too seriously - and personally - at times, but you gotta retain some perspective.
There should probably be some form of compliment coming but as I say, sans a personal relationship it's just a cyber to-and-fro at the end of the day and can't be taken too seriously.
Of course if it was BSG who moderated a post I made about Akira Ioane earlier this season, I take it all back.

I hated you.
(a bit strong but loathe comes to mind).
Too many times I found myself in a state of triggered angst, arguments burning through my mind for hours. Fucken jumped up prick from the bay.
I didn't really hate you but I hated having my strong views "disrespected" by yours. The hate was my confusion of my ideas. The hate was from my world view not stacking up to any depth of inspection. Now I thank you - fucken jumped up prick from the bay 😀
How ever it happened, and over many years by some osmosis, in part due to your sneery rebuttals, I think I've learned to look at information sources more carefully and critically. And it's put me in
goodbetter stead.I think you helped me do that, in your short sharp way.
So farewell mate and I'll always remember how you played the argument and not the man, ( sort of😉, I think Rembrandt summarized it better)
For some reason the closing credits from " The littlest hobo" just passed through my mind.😅
👍

@Baron-Silas-Greenback Best wishes, 20+ years is a long innings in forum posting, and it won't be the same without you.
We often haven't seen eye to eye in politics and economics (and somehow managed to get nominated for a No Love Lost Fernie), but it has always been interesting and obviously your heart is in the right place.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback Always read your posts. Agreed with a few. Disagreed with more. Enjoyed arguing with you on occasions. You spoke your mind and people with different (strong) opinions are always preferable than the bland and predictable.
Don't know what has gone on to make you want to walk (and don't care), but IMHO it is shame to see you go. I hope you will be back here at some point.
Take care,
Sparky

I missed all the excitement. Was it the Fernie awards?
Hey don’t drag me and the fine institution that are the fernies into this car wreck..
Also don’t forget to vote!!

Shocked. Although in hindsight maybe I shouldn't have been. The Baron seemed to be getting even more toady of late.
I'll admit I did complain to the Mods about him. Twice. In 17 years. On both occasions they stood up for him in terms of he gets as good as he gives so for them to take this step he must have really exhausted their patience.
I'll miss BSG. I didn't object to his opinions. He usually argued them well and when he got away from politics could be informative, funny and thought provoking. My only objection was his delivery and latterly, the tedious repetitiveness of it all, on it seemed at times, every thread.
I hope he changes his mind - wouldn't be the first - not by a long shot. Basically he was a good fluffybunny. I'm sure if ever he was in a position to help someone, even someone he violently disagreed with about everything; he would.
All the best @Baron-Silas-Greenback - hope you emerge from your hidden lair in the not too distant future
