@Hooroo I agree 100%. And if (a big if) there happen to be any exceptions made, then I'm much more confident the military will run it by the numbers.
Absolutely.
It is one thing to instruct someone to control a situation, it is another thing to order someone to control a situation.

majority of NZ spent over 4 weeks at thier home, many earning less than normal income, there should be no reason why these people cant deal with proper isolation for 14 days for the benefit of the 'team of 5 million' being paid for by that team
I know being at home for that period is different, but 14 days shouldnt be a big ask, particularly if you are also being monitored.

@dogmeat I think that is unfair on their friend. I wouldn't be surprised if the friend thought a proper process had been followed. I sure as hell would have - no way I'd be hugging a mate from the UK if they hadn't been tested and cleared or done their 14 days in Q. I'd also hope most of my mates wouldn't go for the hug as they'd be taking some personal responsibility.
I get that grief is a big factor in all of this - but if it was impairing their judgement to that degree then surely it was dubious to let them drive from Akld to Wgtn!!I'm glad they have military in there monitoring it all now. It will remove empathy from decision making.
Not sure I'd agree. People tend to be really good at only one thing and that goes doubly so for organisations. The military should be leveraged for their logistical expertise and manpower, but even one experienced in peace keeping operations has to realise that's in a failed state. It's a different matter altogether having your own military in a position to tell your own civilians what they can and can't do. Law and order should always remain the purview of the police IMO.
I'm also astonished that someone with responsibility thought granting exceptions to a clear, understood and widely accepted rule would be a good idea. What's not surprising is an Ardern led government granted it to people flying in from Australia's hot spot to attend the funeral of a shitbag.

funeral of a shitbag.
in theory, that should have no bearing as to exemptions, but I guess if you are associated with those types of people, or have done all your life, your moral compass is likely to be a bit off.

so, given the talk of the Tourism Minister here, it looks like i won't be back for Christmas

Empathy wasn't there to start with. Read the decision from the courts on the lack of compassion and decision making by the MoH and it'll make you shake your head.
They've gone from no empathy, to just laissez faire.

If you have enough of them and the military aren't sitting around doing nothing I would agree.

@Hooroo see that I expect, they are in quarantine after arriving from somewhere else and if the processes there are stringent, there is no issues.
Absolutely.

@Virgil not to returning NZers - plus anyone getting approval to enter where we've got specialist skills shortages. Can't recall the last mention of how many kiwis are overseas, but seems a fair few want to return!
I assume if even if a relatively small % of NZers in Oz want to return it would reach that 2000 a week pretty easily.
-
@Paekakboyz wasnt there like 30,000 or so in those first few weeks around lockdown?
-
@taniwharugby yeah I think it was a big number - but aren't there shitloads of us spread out worldwide?
-
@Bones Corona, CA near Disneyland. I have my temp taken every day as a requirement of my job in addition other questions, face mask and face shield. Don’t get me started on the face shield. Even the health care industry is acting irrationally.
