Four people and you're at level 3? Well this is clearly a repeatable long term policy.
Joke
Just wait for the (international) media coverage.

Been like a stuck record on this for weeks.
Deaths not cases.
No significant increase in deaths amongst the general populace who aren't already post 70 or fucked helathwise should not result in a return to lockdown.

@gt12 Legally, they can't stop Kiwis (citizens and residents) from coming home.
I know that, although I suspect the government can do something about that if they want.
The NZ Government can control the number of flights coming into their international airports. Airlines can continue advertising flights but will have to cancel if NZ limits inbounds.
@Godder what further legislative authority are they seeking?

What will the NZ Govt do
Act with a bit of common sense. Or panic and move to level 3 (and stay there)?
For 4 cases. Agree its a joke.

But when are the people going to say enough.

I've already seen three social media posts from 'friends' saying they want the government to lockdown the border completely - no in, no out.
Is that an idea that ppl support?
I felt very "you're not a good enough kiwi for not coming home, so too bad" when I read it. Sadly, some of us can't just bolt there even though we want to.
Why would you want to go to NZ? They've got the virus!!
-
If the government were sure there were only those 4 cases, there would be no need for changes in level - presumably there are concerns about being more than 4.
@ACT-Crusader probably none, but legally refusing entry to NZ citizens or residents would require amending the Immigration Act and Bill of Rights Act (for citizens).
-
Here we go again, just got to work boss has already called. So the kids will be pulled from school, the wife won’t be working as she’s home based child care.
Trying to remember how we had work all set up for level 3.This will get worse before it gets better right?

Wtf just happened, I just got woken up by my phone blaring at me like a fucking alarm clock with rabies. "Unlock your phone!" a message on the homescreen read, "all residents of NZ read this!" it said or something similar.
After figuring out what was making the racket I got my phone unlocked and the bloody message disappeared.
Did anyone else get this???
EDIT I see from the NZH it was a Civil Defense announcement. Wonder what the rest of it said.
-
I bet that bloke that tried to get a refund on 100 bog rolls back along and was refused is laughing his cock off right now.

Yeah our phones blared at 10pm lastnight. I was awake watching tv in bed the Mrs was asleep. First reaction was it was a mistake an error. Then check online and see it wasn’t... good times

You really gotya wonder where the system has failed for this to happen, because this cant have been undetected in the community for 3 months, there has surely been a failure in the last week or
2.I honestly cannot see NZ abiding by a L4 again, the only positive I can take from the L3 announcement is that it is only for 3 days, which in my mind means they have an idea how this has come in but are waiting on confirmation through contact tracing.
-
@taniwharugby or, they know the lockdown will be for longer than 3 days, and maybe more severe, but don't want everyone to freak out if they admit it...
-
I think there's a pretty good chance there's actually a fair bit of Covid loose in NZ. But unless a high percentage of the populace is tested or someone gets a large viral load, in almost all cases there will be no evidence of same.
Which means elimination is probably a lot harder than JA and her team are letting on.
IMO if no one is bad enough to require hospitalisation there isn't much to get excited about.
-
Here in Auckland are we at level 3 or level 4 because at 3 I could work, the building industry could work. But reading everything sounds like they want us all to stay home unless we are essential workers
-
@pakman they were banging on about our low testing numbers in past weeks, but if people aren't feeling ill, why are they gonna get tested?
Normal flu numbers are supposedly down too, so again, if people feel fine, why would they get tested?
