Just a couple of theories.
I'm just asking questions
I think it's all 5G. I mean, it's the only way this happens again right (aside from Big Vaccine)

@Virgil Unless you stood next to them in the queue you have no reason to worry.
Winnie's claims are Winnie being Winnie. His modus operandi is and ever was make shit up, throw it about and hope some of it sticks.
The govt will be hoping they can trace it back to a cock up at the border. It's unpalatable but better than the alternative.
The lack of testing at the border is unfathomable. If we had no CT then it could only get in across the border. I get that you can't necessarily check everyone every day but twice a week minimum and everyone has to present a log of everywhere they've been since their last shift ended before they begin work should have been a minimum.
Bloomfield has banged on about contact tracing being key. FFS it was the criteria for the move to Lvl 1 - Without social distancing our defence is contact tracing. It appears you only have to do the right thing if you feel like it. Don't want the test? Fine Fuck off. Next...
-
Yeah it’s inexcusable what’s being happening at the borders. They asked us to make all these sacrifices, it’s cost us all money. Some, many have lost their livelihoods. Some have found it too hard to bear and taken their own lives. It’s cost marriages.
The least they can do is take every possible conceivable precaution with layer upon layer of procedure.
They haven’t, it’s been a disaster and we are paying for it. -
I wonder if the numbers returning to NZ and booking flights has slowed now?
In an ideal world, every case they get today is linked to this existing cluster AND they find the border breach, if only the former, less ideal but I think that gives less case for L4?

You have to wonder how many of these blunders have been helped by an ineffective opposition, mostly compliant media and a 'kind' public.
The opposition have faced a public backlash when they have questioned what is going on (maybe fair enough in some cases) and seemly haven't had the skill set to look for right opening to make progress on these kind of things. Imagine if NZF, National, ACT etc. had looked into this lack of testing weeks ago and been pointing it out. They could either have blocked potential holes in the system or be in a position to show that they tried to stop this latest outbreak.
The media don't seem too interested in pushing against Cindy and have pretty much given her a TV slot when she wants to campaign on how good a job Labour have done. The media need to really pressure Cindy and Andrew so that they're going back to their people and walking through these processes and picking up mistakes.
The public seems really averse to any contrary opinion that NZ is the bestest and kindest in the world at Covid. 'We've got this' and any questioning of what has happened/ing is faced with massive pushback, or 'look at the polling numbers' they show how well we've done.
I may have missed it but is there any actual data released on how far we've come since March? How many more icu beds are there? How many more respirators are there? How many people are in contact with new arrivals and what is the weekly % tests for these people?

Or they could let it happen and let the government look incompetent?

every time national says anything there are a flood of articles on stuff etc saying how wrong they are/cant say that/not helpful/spreading conspiracy theories.
Last night they got some talking head they labelled as an "expert" without mentioning his credentials and labelled National's strategy as out of the Trump playbook.
Propaganda at it's finest.

This quote is from yesterday's MoH media release:
Genome sequencing
We are continuing with genome sequencing investigations. What we know so far is that there has been no exact link with a recent case in MIQ from the samples we have been able to genome sequence, however, genome sequencing of new cases resembles the genome pattern from the UK and Australia most closely.
This seems to indicate that it's unlikely that the new cases are linked to someone who has been in contact with new arrivals at the border (people working at the airport and managed isolation and quarantine facilities). My bet would be on air crew (pilots and esp flight attendants).

I saw that on TB, laughed, mentioned that he was a complete piston wristed gibbon, and changed the channel.

The media not holding the government to account and acting like cheerleaders has contributed to the mess we are in now.
Threads on the Fern have pointed out the obvious flaws in Quarantine (air crew for example) so it's not like it's hard to deduce that we had a quarantine in name only.

Maybe. If they are correct about the amount of time needed to be in direct contact with an infected person it becomes a little difficult to say.
Pilots - maybe. Separate air supply to the flight deck (airbus anyway) and it all goes through HEPA filters which are supposed to take out the virus. That's not to say that they haven't picked it up while out somewhere overseas and then sat next to another pilot for a long period of time. Then aren't required to isolate
How many cabin crew spend that amount of time with a passenger? Not so likely. Exchanging body fluids excluded from that.
But how long are people spending standing next to each other in an immigration queue?
-
There has been far too much "self isolation" at all levels in the past few months.
Trusting individuals to make the right decisions, willfully or not, to restrict the spread of the disease is keystone cops level of incompetance.
It's either serious enough to have proper quarantine, or it isn't. Shutting down the economy and people's freedoms seems to indicate they think it's serious. So build a proper quarantine facility that you keep people in and get serious about it.
-
@Kirwan Please, remind me, which people have been in self-isolation, lately? I can't remember which groups get to that, the last few months. Everyone coming into the country form overseas goes into a quarantine or managed isolation facility, which aren't "self-isolation".
