Black Lives Matter

Kicking off in Louisville. Protesters have moved on from harassing residents to now smashing businesses and homes and setting fires. Police under attack, 2 officers shot so far, both in stable condition in hospital, one in surgery. National Guard has set up a perimeter around the hospital as blm are likely to want to finish the job. Videos from other cities around the US of other BLM protestors destroying restaurants, peoples card windows and harassing citizens.
And Joe Biden has responded:
Will be interesting how this is all reported. Mostly peaceful protest headlines again?
No respect for the American justice system, Joe?

Really hard decision come November...

@MajorRage do they care?
Exactly
I think they honestly think they are more important than the presidential race.

Another BLM martyr incoming?

EDIT MOD: Rather graphic, so I have put a spoiler on it so those don't want to watch it, don't have to.

@Rembrandt Fuck, that is appalling. Who'd do that job?
-
If they go ape shit over that then there's no hope
-
@Rembrandt Another excellent example of why Americans need to properly fund their police departments so that they can recruit and train effectively. Not having someone who squeals and becomes fixated in terror.
-
@antipodean She just needed to draw her gun and blow his head off once he came at her with the knife.
-
On reflection I may be a little harsh given my experience is much more binary than the operating circumstances they have to deal with. But if you freeze you end up like old people frantically smashing the brake pedal through the firewall, only to find the car keeps accelerating, bumping off cars and people in the carpark because your foot is actually on the accelerator.

Its tough though. Shoot and you lose your career, your family will be threatened, you'll be ostracised by main stream media and your city will burn. A lot to contend with in a few split seconds.
Court systems are still pretty fair.
Then you get to sue left right and center.
Which is what I expect Kyle Rittenhouse will do for being misrepresented by the Biden campaign as a white supremacist. -

This is why people who present a knife to police may end up shot. A taser does not always work and you only get one go at it, like that police woman found out.
As soon as that knife became visible she should have discarded the taser, put distance on the guy and gone for her weapon. The triangulation for her partner could have been better. I am guessing he took a while to shoot because she was in his line of fire. Hindsight is a wonderful thing aye.
It can be scary when people don't comply with instructions and that is why they can be met with force. You don't know what they are thinking about doing and what they have concealed on them. For much of that video all he was doing was refusing to show his hands and then walking towards police.
Anyone know if that police woman is Ok?

I know further down you say you may have been a bit harsh, but I think you are spot on with the points you make. And it's not just the US where recruitment and training have gone a bit hay wire. Physical prowess is way down the list of desirable attributes in recruits nowadays. Combine that with the minimum amount of training they think they can get away with and it's a recipe for things like that to happen.
For example my police department has now decided that one day a year is sufficient to train in firearms, tasers, scenarios (like the one in the video) and tactical restraints. And another day is put aside for active shooter training scenarios and tactical first aid. That's two days training a year. Prior to now it used to be an equally pitiful three.

@Crazy-Horse A mate of mine was hospitalised apprehending an offender who wasn't interested in being arrested. My mate's partner was physically incapable of intervening. Unsurprisingly my mate has some strong views on police recruitment.

And I thought the army didn't train enough.

@Crazy-Horse @Crazy-Horse What suprised me most in that clip was the bloke was still standing holding a knife after what 14+ shots at close range. Gives perspective on why there seems to be disproportionate force in a lot of these cases, turns out reality is a little different from the movies we watch.
