As the UK starts to show some pretty clear signs of improvement in the numbers from the second wave, the Taffs have decided to up the ante and booze can not be served in licensed venues ....
Oh and all restaurants / pubs have to close at 6pm.
Hows this going down @MiketheSnow ?
It's after 6pm. He's drunk and asleep!
Massive misread on my part! Cannot be served!! I thought it was like the 60's in NZ where you go and get smashed after work before the pubs closed at 6

Comedy Gold 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Going down like the Hindenburg.
Absolute fucking joke.
Dumford & Sons saying hospitality the main vector for the spread in Wales so shutting it down.
High profile pub chain saying show us the evidence and numbers. Nada.
Firebreak has done little to curb the R rate hence the measures from Friday.
All that’s going to happen is more people drinking and socialising at home where there is zero social distancing and no track & trace.
But magically on 23 December we’ll all be set free to do the last minute Christmas shop, spend Christmas Day with family and friends, then go beserk in Boxing Day sales only for it all to be locked down again on 28th.
Farce.
-
@MiketheSnow I certainly get that some hard unpopular decisions have to be made.
But an alcohol ban in open licensed premises is appalling.

As per above, I completely misread it. I read it as can be served until 6 pm

I just watched a bloody good show called 'Saving Britain's Pubs'.
Business was already very tight before Covid.
Covid hit and they limped along with the help of their communities supporting by buying takeout and diversifying. Plus the presenter had some good suggestions.
The show ended on a high note where it looked as if the profiled pubs had survived.
Problem was, that was back in July.......... -
UK approves the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine.
Immunisations could start within days for people in high priority groups.
The UK has already ordered 40m doses - enough to vaccinate 20m people, with two shots each.
Around 10m doses should be available soon, with the first doses arriving in the UK in the coming days.
NZ likely to get it end of March, IIRC.

Pretty much echoed by one of my Welsh friends.
Thinks Drakeford & Labour were trying to grandstand with the 2 week lockdown and it's backfired badly on them.

Well, their “fire breaker” lockdown came hot on the heels of Starmer’s suggestion of a “circuit breaker” lockdown. Guess they thought it would be too obvious to call it the same thing. Political agenda for sure.

Tom Kerridge?
Pubs and hospitality seem to be OK here in Cornwall. Wonder if that's because they've always had to attract customers to survive. Local holiday village and B&B have had pretty normal Christmas bookings.
Local pub in next village (oldest in Cornwall) has been sold and is re-opening after having been closed for 5-6 years.

I've found Starmer cynical and unimpressive on the crisis. Labour Health spokeman, John Ashworth, way more impressive.

Meanwhile the EU hopes to meet to discuss approval on 29 December.....

Haven't heard yet. Ms M1 is training in psychiatry so she'll be down the list. Ms M2 starts interacting with patients in Jan so I'd imagine a jab then.
Mrs M's daughter is in respite care with severely disabled kids - inc. respiratory problems, hence top of the list.

I have to admit, I find this slightly worrying. Is the UK rushing too fast and pushing something through that hasn't been tested properly?
Or are the EU being typical bunch of uber-conservative ensuring that the vaccine meets their "higher standards" ... whatever that means.
@Tim - really interested in your thoughts on this one.

Pubs have been struggling for years in the UK. The modern youth, are simply less interested in having pints at the pub. Much more likely to have a vodka, water and fresh lemon at home with some vegan snacks than smash a pint of a carling with a bag of walkers.
