Board in 40mins.
Still going, after much deliberation. We REALLY don't want to get stuck as we have important kids stuff next week, but are taking the risk.
Far out, what a roller-coaster!
Good timing. Travel bubble paused from 10pm tonight.
Yep, we must be one of the last flights out.
Supposed to be a 4 night trip, but might be another 4 months in Wanaka ahead...

Based on the recent Perth experience hopefully the window reopens in less than a week. Could think of worse places to get stranded though

From Washington Post
New data from Qatar suggests that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is effective against coronavirus variants, including one first found in South Africa that can evade parts of the body's immune response. The shots are 75 percent effective at blocking that variant and 90 percent effective at preventing infections caused by the variant first detected in the United Kingdom, according to the study. The inoculation was particularly protective against severe or fatal cases of covid-19.

@voodoo you get away bro?
Jeez, it's like we're all colditz pow's eager to hear of a comrade's escape attempt 🙂
Yeah mate, I'm in Palmy now. Escaped the gulag, for, well, the gulag....
Next few days will be interesting to see how the return leg goes, but I'm feeling lucky!

They consider 18500 vaccinations in a city of over 1M people to be a success? Loving how management all got their jabs first, "to set an example". Set for who? The medical staff want to have the jab. It sounds like climbing into the first seats of the lifeboat on the Titanic, to set an example....

My colleague who deals with the DHB has a very low opinion of their handling of the vaccination roll out. They are limiting facilities who will be eligible to provide shots in the general roll out to those who can promise to provide 75 shots a day. I don't know where they got this number from, but it rules out a large number of GPs, who are well equipped to give them (bearing in mind they already routinely provide other vaccinations and have systems in place, and established databases filled with patients very used to seeing them). It is not a question of storage because vaccines will be delivered and will store for 5 days. Just another case of administrative walaahs ignoring advice from people at the frontline

Great that you got there (sort of, it's Palmy after all).
How's your Mum doing?

Gets pretty tired, but for the most part is the same as she was 7 months ago when I left NZ. Truly bizarre, she is definitely one of the beneficiaries of Covid. At Xmas-19 I'd have given her 2 months max. And here we are 17 months later 🤷♂️

If you have the vaccination in another country, does NZ still require you to quarantine when you return?
"If you have received a COVID-19 vaccination overseas, you will still need to secure a voucher and complete 14 days in New Zealand's Managed Isolation and Quarantine Facilities.12/03/2021"
Not completely up to date but I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

What?!?!
I fucking hope that is going to change.
If you are vaccinated and test negative two times (before boarding, after arriving), it makes no sense that that you should still need to sit in a fucking hotel room - at your own expense - for two weeks, just to see your Mum.

Yes it does at the moment. Sadly.
I get that some countries are able to be risk assessed well regarding vaccinations but there has to be a lowest denominator approach to avoid cries of favouritism or racism as happened when restrictions were placed on travel originating in India because testing certificates were not trusted.
