Movie review thread...

for some bizaare reason I decided to watch Hostel 2, one of those movies you kow will be sh!t, but always watch to the end to find out what happens...<br />
<br />
was one scene in particular I could have done without seeing too!! <br />
<br />
[spoiler:19iuacn8]where the chick cuts off the dudes tackle and feeds to a dog![/spoiler:19iuacn8]
<br />
<br />
<br />
Yup that scene just made you wince and cover your groin!<br />
<br />
Makes you wonder if that kind of shit might actually happen over there...
<br />
<br />
A mate of mine is engaged to a lovely lass from Bratislava and ( to be fair the movie confirms this in parts ) some of it is really beautiful. I think Hostel 1 and 2 and Eurotrip paint it in a much more depressing light than it actually is. I'd believe that shit like that would happen but not to that extent and [spoiler:19iuacn8]I'm sure they wouldn't go all the way to the US to decapitate the only survivor ![/spoiler:19iuacn8]<br />
<br />
Yes the scene mentioned wasn't pleasant was it ? your worst nightmare really..... -
On a lighter note, I saw Where the Wild Things Are last night, and it was really good. Captured the spirit of the book very well, and was very well crafted. For a movie that is mostly guys in furry suits, it was beautiful to look at at times. Beautiful imagery.<br />
<br />
Hung on the ability of the child lead and he was something special, in a non Haley J. Osment way, just an honest portrayal of a young kid, tears, tantrums and all (One highlight was the standoff with him standing on the table in his Wolf Suit shouting "Feed Me Woman".)<br />
<br />
Due warming that it's a movie about emotions, so that might put some people off. -
As an interesting aside in history the army was planning a coup in Germany to get Hitler out of power but had the stuffing knocked out of it by Chamberlin waving his white piece of paper and Germany politically being able to take over the rhineland, Hungary, Austria and Czechoslovakia with-out firing a shot well made Hitler look like a genius instead of a raving mad-man - alas they and the world didn't find that out till much later...<br />
<br />
Regardless Hilter never did have universal approval with the German army but rather had just enough friends, connections and more importantly power to hold onto it...
<br />
<br />
Yeah many of the big shots in the army like Mannstein hated him but they never had the balls to get rid of him. Hitler was brilliant at the art of divide and rule.<br />
<br />
Its incredible to think what would have happened it the coup had taken place in 38 or indeed if Britain, France etc had stood up to Hitler and declared war. This is actually something guys like Canaris were hoping for because they knew that the German army wasnt strong enough at that stage to take on the allies. -
I watched T4 - Salvation last night. It was okay. Not great and I think it made a really big mistake of focussing on the Marcus character and not enough on John Connor. The cameo by Arnold (read CGI) made my son's day.<br />
<br />
BTW: Kirwan - I think I'll be seeing Where the Wild Things are on the weekend ... Dear God. It's my turn to take the kids to the flicks and use up the tickets we got. I can tolerate most kids' movies. Most of them are a laugh, but I got stuck with taking the kids to New Moon when it came out. Our daughter loves it and son wanted to see the Werewolves. It was right up there (or down there) with Sisters and the Ya-Ya sisterhood thing or the traveling pants or whatever that rubbish was. Avoid like the plague. -

<br />
Yeah thats what i thought, on the whole enjoyed it more than the last terminator flick.<br />
Another nice touch was when he played the GnR song from T2 on the boom box... -
I fianlly saw the Liam Neeson flick "Taken" on the weekend. I thought i was pretty fucking cool. Liam's character is cold, and hurts people, a lot. Loved it.

The original idea was John Conner wasn't really going to be in it, and McG approached Bale for the role of Marcus. Bale said he would only be in a terminator film if he could play Connor so they rewrote for him. Just one of the many reasons why the film turned out to be so stupidly shit.<br />
<br />
As for Where the Wild Things Are, I think it's been marketed terribly. I don't think it's a kids film at all, be interesting to see what your kids think about it. It's more of a throw back to older films where they didn't patronise kids if it has to be tagged a kids film.<br />
<br />
I suspect they'll be bored shitless though <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -

Taken - great fockin movie.
<br />
<br />
im no sicko but the torture scene is required viewing.
<br />
<br />
Yeah, quality shit. Think you can find my review of the movie somewhere on this thread - it's all about cutting the bad guys off mid-sentence by shooting them in the head. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
The Guardian has published a review of Avatar - 2/5. But they did say this: "It really is like a Yes album cover come to life."<br />

I thought it was a decent enough flick and Neeson was undoubtedly extremely farkin cool but it was ruined a bit by having him dispatch numerous bad guys with barely a scratch a la Jean Claude Van Damme or Steven Seagal. -

Um well [spoiler:2zpo5zom]yes he coulda done, I was having a few drinks when I watched it. As for your last comment thanks for that Arnie xzxblum1[/spoiler:2zpo5zom] -
That was the coolest part of the whole movie leading up to that quote!<br />
<br />
Probably my equal fav movie I watched this year. Equal with Rocknroller
<br />
<br />
It was like the old school Arnie or JCVD films, but with better acting.
