You fucking twunt.
Of all the issues facing your religion. You decide to get angry about the USA calling its big bomb 'the mother of all bombs'https://www.google.co.nz/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/39830311
-
It seems especially odd as MOAB actually stands for Massive Ordnance Airborne Blast or something like that. Mother of all bombs is a media nickname.

Funny that he would get his knickers in a twist about that. So far he actually came across as a bit more real world than your average pope
I'd say more virtue signalling lefty than real world.

@canefan You've now got me wondering what an average pope is
Historically there have been some mad ones. So average is just a normal bloke probably.

To be fair to his popeyness, this wasn't the core focus of his week.
He made one off the cuff comment about it to some school kids. He does have more important shit on the schedule.
His core business this week was traveling to Cairo to speak at Al-Azhar (historically the main font of Islamic learning) & shared the stage with the Grand Imam. This in an effort to stop Egypts Christians getting exploded quite so much...
So you would REALLY have to be desperately looking for a reason to have a hissy fit to actually think the one liner re MOAB was what he was doing with his time. Given he actually was stepping right into the heart of Islam (and doing an undefended walk around while there) to try bring a degree of protection to Christians in Egypt - interestingly something the Grand Imam was right on board with.
-
@gollum Yep - journalists making a headline and story from a couple of comments made in a single speech to students. And the very little that was quoted, seemed fairly sensible, and in context were probably just part of a vaguer "war is bad, mmmK? killing people, yeah - bad, mmmK? mothers - gotta love ya mum, yeah?"
I detest the Catholic church (and organised religion in general) as much as anybody else who is aware of logic/science... but getting angry about that headline/shit-reporting, of all the issues to get angry about? -
I agree with the thread title, Pope Francis can fuck right off. I'm astounded people still give a rats arse about his opinion on anything - when I see whole media reports around some speech he gave I think "really? Does anyone actually give a fuck what this guy thinks?" and then I remember there are still more than a billion people that do. And I despair. I really do.
What a self-righteous, hypocritical piece of shit.
I've talked at length in recent times of stopping the spread of Islam. Stopping the spread of Catholicism and Christianity in general is right at the top of my list of "things to do" as well. Thankfully for me these shitty ideologies are already being eroded away in the west, but the better half is from Papua New Guinea - which is something like 96 percent Christian - and a lot of them are very fundamental in their beliefs which leads to a fucking toxic culture when combined with some of their not-so-great traditional beliefs. We honestly despair at the attitudes of people there, and as long as they believe in this nonsense it's hard to see a way forward for them.
And these are exactly the type of people Pope Francis loves to exploit - uneducated people living in poverty. What a fucking scumbag.

Catholicaphobe.
I'll call you a racist bigot for good measure.
-
I personally could not give a flying fuck about him. Nor clearly do you. Catholics I hear are quite keen to hear what he is up to.
Its no different to Kendall Jenner, a MASSIVE number of people are very keen on what she is doing, I just ignore it because I dont care.
The bit I don't get is people who aren't Catholics & weren't fiddled by a priest getting incredibly angry over him saying anything.
He's not speaking to them. He's speaking to the 1.2 billion people for whom he is the head of their church. And he is almost always saying something aimed at making the world better, so worst case, a catholic does something nice that tangentally affects me.
Its like if Kendall Jenner was saying "I like blowing middle aged kiwis!" I wouldn't read that, I wouldn't have a hissy fit about it if it was a headline, I'm not the audience, but if one of her 75 million followers took it to heart I could have a really good day.
-
@gollum ah right, you obviously didn't read all of my post, notably the part where relatives of my wife have been indoctrinated into the Catholic church with no proper education and now give their (very limited) money to a church that is worth many billions of dollars, because if they don't they believe they will go to hell. Ohh but Pope Francis is such a great guy! He says look after the poor!! What's wrong with that? .... apart from the blatant fucking hypocrisy of exploiting people living in poverty when your organisation is one of the wealthiest in the world.... yeah apart from that, such a great Pope.
Pope Francis is doing everything he can to try and keep Catholicism relevant in the west as the numbers are declining every year. That's why he's trying to be a bit more "progressive".
There is so much wrong with the Catholic church it is hard to know where to begin. If you don't give a flying fuck about it then I'm struggling to understand why you took the time to post.
And your comparison of the Pope pushing an ideology to a celebrity is completely absurd.

How? Theres very little difference between modern celebrity & religion. You get celebrities pushing things like anti-vax or gluten free & people obey, you get massive days of mourning for celebrities, people hang on their every word. Some people do what the Pope tells them, sopme people steam their vag because Gwneyth tweeted it & refuse to vaxcinate their kids because Jenny Mccarthy told them.
There's no difference.
As for your family, thats how religion works, if you are a believer you buy it, if you aren't you don't. I'd argue the current Pope is (slowly) pushing the church in a better direction. If you are not a fan of the Catholic church it wont be fast enough or ever enough, but I struggle to find anything to seriously dislike about the guy, he's spoken about contrception use, tolerance etc, all good stuff.
I'd have thouigh any leader trying to move the church away from the dark ages would appeal to you. Your only other option is to tell your family what is good for them & demand they no longer believe. Good luck with that.
-
@gollum the difference between the Pope and a celebrity is that the Pope is pushing an ideology based on a holy text and has 1.2 billion followers that try and live most aspects of their life in line with that ideology. Which makes them prime targets for exploitation - the biggest strongholds for the Catholic church is uneducated poor people in third world nations. You'll have to forgive me if I have a problem with exploitation.
Celebrities really just try and make money. And don't have anywhere near as many followers. And people don't try and live their lives in line with... well anything.. because celebrities don't push any specific ideology. Given vaccination rates by percentage for children in western countries is in the high 90s I don't think Jenny McCarthy is reaching many people.
I thought that would be obvious.
Look, it's nothing like as bad as something like Islam, it's undergone pretty consistent reformation for a long time now - they literally just change the rules as they go to try and move with the times. Some of the stuff in Catholicism is genuinely good, but the negative impacts it has on people worldwide far outweigh the positive. They've been forced to change their views on a number of things in recent times, and Pope Francis is the guy they've chosen to lead that, because if they don't there won't be any Catholics living in the west in the near future - the numbers are declining every year.
I'm familiar with how religion works. Those that buy it are overwhelmingly people that were raised within the religion. And when you have someone that's spent their entire youth and most of their adult life dedicating much of their time/money into something, it's pretty bloody difficult to tell them it's all nonsense. That's not an easy thing to deal with. So yeah.. "good luck with that".. thanks.
Again, if you don't give a shit, great for you. I do happen to give a shit, and will take pretty much any opportunity I can to call it out for the corrupt, bullshit organisation that it is.
What I don't get is why you'd have a problem with that.
