The other point that has been completely mossed in all the whinging about BB rolling a ball a couple of feet forward is how the hell was the forward pass from Le roux to the winger before the final try not picked up? The AR was right there.
That guy is a touchie at Warriors games too

@Billy-Webb did you get in the way again that game?
Certainly not in his way ever again
Crazy bugger, but awesome teammate. The sort you want on your team rather than the oppo.
Just don't get between him and the ball... -

I’m ok with people entering rucks on their feet too. However, watch how many time people just dive over them. That’s not only a penalty, it’s also bloody dangerous. If they focused a bit more on that, we’d actually see teams needing to commit people to rucks. I wonder what that might mean for space on the edges?
i disagree with that, the worst offenders are the attackers, and they are diving at nothing (or the one guy sent to attack the ball). Coaches won't allow space on the edges no matter what interpretations are in place. Be really hard on those cleanouts? Then defending teams will feel that there is more to be gained by sending one guy hard at the ball, your odds go up. Coaches are smarter than administrators, and have zero fucks to give about the way a game looks.
There's a bit of a chicken and egg argument here - would the attacking players be so prone to going off their feet if the defending player (i.e. the "jackal") was prevented from simply flopping over the ball, using the tackled player to keep himself up...? I'm still grappling with this, but my view is that the ruck is better if it becomes a pushing contest like basically all other forward contests in the game (i.e. scrums, mauls). This would encourage more people towards the ruck (because you'd need more people to push the other team off the ball) and open up space out wider. I am certain that there would be some negatives with this - there always is with any change - but, currently, I can't see a better way of solving the ruck problem and creating space on the pitch.

@junior isn't that the 'muck' that they tried during the ELV? In theory pushing over the ball is a good idea, but it wound up with players arriving and not being sure what they can do. Don't know what the solution is, but the big issues in modern rugby for me are
Offside
Rucks (particularly going off feet)
Scrums taking for bloody ever and being used as penalty magnets
Mauls that only get reffed one way and have two cracks at moving -

@nzzp I'll add to your list crappy bad sportsmanship that you'd get instantly penalised in 7s for, they should be just as hard in 15s on that crap. And the slow increase in diving and other such soccer rubbish
preach it bruh
yelling at the ref (anything but 'sir' should get the side eye)

Mauls that only get reffed one way and have two cracks at movingYou might be right, but I can't recall exactly. I think the aim is right - to return the ruck to a pushing contest - but no one (including myself) has worked out exactly how to do so. The main issue I see, is that the ruck turns into a quagmire (not too different from what it is now) and the only way to deal with it is to reward the team going forward by awarding them a scrum - but then this results in a slower game and more scrums (which have their own issues)!
(As an aside, I don't mind scrums so much, as they are a unique and fundamental part of the game and, importantly, tie-up 16 blokes in the one spot long enough to give the other 14 blokes time and space to attack.)

Mauls that only get reffed one way and have two cracks at movingMauls are a mess. One thing I hate and it’s clearly against the laws are players from the attacking team joining a maul in front of the ball carrier. You usually see it when the maul is going forward and there is a final push for the try line. Players rushing in and having no regard to join from behind, but join the pack for the drive.

Added another paragraph to the enormous law book
And snuffed dead a still fluid coaching response to competing at rucks without human missiles.
The worst response to a law trial I have witnessed.

that was a dog of a season, that tweak in the rules made rucks an absolute mess.

and then we came up against the Froggies who had been playing under the old rules, and they played well and beat us. Grrrr.
