@Wairau convince a Doctor to prescribe you them. Otherwise you can't buy them over the counter
Yeah, mate of mine is a pharmacist in the US, he had to get a Dr to prescribe them. And he isn't sharing 😬

Today's stats and graphs:
Edit: there are a few mistakes in the text of the Newsroom article (I assume they re-use text from the previous day), but the graphs seem to be correct.

Another 83 positive/probables, 10 in hospital, 1 in ICU.
127 recovered out of 950 cases.
3,643 tested yesterday.

"In terms of more more information around the lockdown length of time, this would be provided in the coming week, Bloomfield said."
That'll be interesting!
Also 100% agree with this, watching people with masks is fucking frustrating, same with gloves - nothing but a placebo that makes things worse.
"McElnay says there is evidence that wearing a mask (when not already sick) can do harm as it increases people touching their face and can give them a false sense of security.
She says good hygiene is still the key measure."I've not seen a single person, I've not been to a hospital or medical centre, using mask or gloves in a way that doesn;t increase the risk of transmission yet. Admitedly small sample size but Joe Public are undisciplined and untrained. Having a wife who is an Environmenta Health Officer and having personally trained in NBCD, you can see it doesn't work for the public.

I am hoping to be proved wrong, but I think the govt has fucked this up. This article sums alot of thoughts on the matter.
I think as usual this govt just panicked and decided to govern by working group, and in this case the entire orking group were people who didnt care about the economy.

Possibly, but when you look at Italy etc, the long term damage there is going to be greater. Their lockdown, now, is even harder than ours because they started late. I'm hoping that at the end of this 4 weeks, NZ will be internally open, even if not to overseas, and we can get on with stuff.

I don't wear one when outside as there's no need, but I do wear one when I goto the supermarket as I'm more likely to be in close contact with other people there. Medical professionals wear them for that same reason - they are in close contact in a closed environment. If they don't help to stop the virus why on earth would they all be wearing them?
I don't touch my face at all with it on (in fact way less as it's a reminder not to) and I don't get any false sense of security - both of those reasons for them being bad are nonsense.
The WHO is now conceding that they do help, and it appears the original narrative of them not working at all was put out to stop people hording them when medical professionals need them the most.

I thought this was always the narrative from the get go, or it was as I understood it.

If you are going to use the Italy extreme on one side , you have consider the German one on the other side.
It appears that we aren’t on the same path as Italy, and perhaps never were.

That was more the suspected (and pretty obvious) narrative but the official statements from the WHO were that they straight up don't help at all. Which was likely a white lie, but pretty shitty nonetheless.

Considering our hospital system, and in particular the lack of ICU spots, would you be comfortable taking the chance? I spoke to my mate today. They are still waiting for supplies of the right PPE and Middlemore is the covid centre for Auckland. Even now, if it slides we are fucked, and the doctors and nurses who will try to manage the outbreak will literally be laying their lives on the line

I didn't read any of their stuff ... I was just watching it play out on the Fern.

Can I ask, and I don’t mean to be facetious, but if Middlemore is the Covid centre of Auckland, what actually are all the medical staff doing? We know that 3 people(?) total have been in ICU but how many are actually being hospitalised? Given the elective surgeries that have been cancelled is it possible their workloads have actually dropped?

Who made you the Oracle? He is on the front line and doesn't have the protective gear he needs. He offered to bring his own but was told not to because it would panic the other staff.
Just because you didn't read it on Breitbart doesn't mean that it isn't happening. Or do you moonlight at the hospital so you saw it for yourself?

His department are trying to finish up cases that they are in the middle of. They are still operating for acute procedures. But otherwise I can't tell you what they are doing. But they are not performing elective stuff because I assume they don't want to use up capability they will need if covid hits hard. Having worked a couple of days just before lockdown, even for us the stress of working in a perceived higher risk environment was tangible. Until you work in a situation where you are potentially in serious harm's way you can't possibly know how it feels
