Mate, not sure that says much about today's music. Sounds straight out of the 80's.
-

Now that's better. I'm gonna watch it with the sound on later.
-

Well you did suggest that I die in a fire for not worshipping the ground Clapton and Knopfler walk on so I was covering my bases.

That's conflating two different issues.

Do I get positive points for saying Dave Gilmour is outstanding though ?

Yes. Although that's like doing a bellyflop off the 3m platform - difficulty zero.

Any of you blokes listen to any music released in the last 10 years?

Says a lot about the demographic on here.

I'd only given this some thought about 15 hours before you posted thinking once you reach a certain age you tend not to listen to any new music, but on reflection that's not correct. As it turns out, I'm listening to Gorillaz (On Melancholy Hill) although admittedly I was listening to them more than 10 years ago, Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, Queens of the Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem, Rudimental, Awolnation. Five Finger Death Punch, etc.

Antipodean, you do realise most of those quoted bands were formed over ten years ago and some nearer twenty, don't you?

-
The question was music released in the last decade. Not my fault I already liked a bunch of them .

Dire straights are the epitome of boring, middle of the road, soft , white, middle aged stadium rock. -

J Mascis, creator of the best song ever to be written and Guitar'd!! :)

Get Me is easily in my top 5 and most likely Number 1 which is a tough call. I never get sick of hearing it

Saw J Mascis play last year in Christchurch.

Only disapointment was it was an accoustic set. He's way better with a wall of noise behind him :)
-

But Mark Knopfler wore a headband to try and alleviate the boredom at least and I say that as someone who was dragged along to the concert in 1991.

By default I find myself nodding along to the shit my sons listen to in the car that they know from when they do jump jam at school. It's very easy to point the finger at the crap of today but crap has been around since the beginning of time. Why 20 or so years ago shit like the Macarena, Barbie Girl and anything by the Vengaboys was polluting the airwaves and the clubs. It's just as bad as shit today only I'm older and grumpier.
-

I read that Rolling Stone article on Ginger Baker, he just comes across as a penis.

As for Clapton and Knoffler, I respect people who can create good stuff that is 'easy'(that people can replicate and then bitch about the artist on a forum), that's a talent in itself.

Not getting the Halestorm thing on this thread - never heard of them before so just watched that video, not my type of music and the singer reminds me of a hair metal singer in the 80s.
-

Meth addict or not we all know you'd still hit that faster than a speeding bullet given an inkling of a chance.
